Stray Bullet

(UA* where instead of paralyzing Charles, Erik makes a much more deadly shot.)

((*UA- Universe Alteration))

It had all gone wrong. Erik didn't know how he wanted it to end, but it sure as hell shouldn't have ended like this. Not with Charles lying unconscious in that damn hospital bed. And most definitely, Erik shouldn't have been the one to have put him there. If Erik should have behaved anymore like Shaw, he probably would have just blown it off as collateral damage. But Shaw doesn't matter anymore. And the man that Erik loves most certainly isn't collateral damage. If Charles could speak right now, he would tell Erik to not worry (which Erik would ignore) and to make sure that Raven didn't get into too much trouble. However, instead of being warm, and kind, and well…. Charles; Charles' body just lay there like a corpse with a tube down his throat forcing him to breathe. It matched the dull, monotone hospital room that they were stuck in.

Erik, of course was not happy at all at being stuck in a human-infested hospital. Unfortunately, he seemed to be the only one who seemed to wholeheartedly, not trust the humans. Being surrounded by the less enhanced beings, along with having them taking care of Charles (who knows what they could be injecting him with) was driving the metal bender mad.

"Honestly, Charles," Erik thought aloud to himself, smiling softly "look what I'm going through for you."

The only reasons that Erik believed that Charles could pull though this, was he had put his utmost trust into the professor; and wasn't about to take that back. Secondly, the last words he heard Charles say where "It'll be ok… I'll be fine, d-don't worry." Before they were forced to take him to the hospital. And of course, the ever present telepathic presence in the back of all Charles' pupils; or "X-Men" as Raven and Moria had jokingly started calling themselves. Just a little flicker of Charles still with them. A lot weaker than before, but still enough to prove that the professor was still fighting to come back to them.

No matter how much Erik spoke aloud to the body in the room with him, the only response was the dull beeping of the machines hooked up to the telepath. And as always their only response from the metal-bender was a sigh and a smirk, while running his fingers lightly up and down Charles' wrist. Erik was beginning to forget how long it had been since the initial admittance to the hospital. He vaguely remembered Hank, Alex, Sean, Moria and of course Raven sauntering in and out of the room. Something about leaving for a shower and a change of clothes, maybe food…? 'That was around six', Erik thought looking at his wristwatch. Four hours and a bit had passed, making it half past 10. Erik sighed and leaned back in the uncomfortable, plastic chair next to the hospital bed, not letting go of Charles' hand.
