Brightheart's Agony
Pain.
Pain is the only thing I can sense. Pain in my legs, from running so hard; but I failed anyway, didn't I? The only thing It's giving me now is hurt, agonizing hits like a rock all over my body. I should have stopped running. I should have stood there, let them eat me… nothing, not even death, could possibly be worse than this. I had pain in my tail…. had it been bitten? The thought brought my memories back; the large snapping jaws...Kill, Kill! Pack, Pack!...Pain….Agony….Swiftpaw's mangled body on the ground, being devoured by dogs...I wish I could forget… But I never will.
My ear felt bitten off...I remembered the dogs biting both my ears. One felt completely bitten off, the other halfway. But the worst pain of all was my right eye. When we first ran into the dogs, the leader screamed Pack, Pack! Kill, Kill! and clawed my right eye. It felt like it was on fire. I couldn't feel anything on my face, and all I could see was black. "Fireheart… Lostface's never going to be able to use her eye, is she?" I heard Cloudtail whisper from his curled up position next to me. He hadn't left my side. "No." Firestar mewed softly. No. Never. My eye was gone…. I could never be a warrior now! When Longtail lost his sight, he moved to the elders' den. I should never had listened to Swiftpaw… I should have stopped him...maybe he wouldn't have died so soon…..
I wish I could let go. Let go, and make the easy, painless ride up to Starclan. It would be so simple…. and I would never have to go through pain again. They would be unhappy for a while, but they would get over it. It's not like I mattered. My injuries became painfully intense, almost screaming Go! Stop this pain! Make everyone feel better! I was about to let go… but then I heard Cloudtail.
"No!" he hissed."Lostface WILL become a warrior! I'll teach her special moves for her eye!" Cloudtail had faith. In me. Me! "That sounds like a good idea, Firestar!" Cinderpelt mewed from across the den. Cinderpelt too? But I was almost blind, for heaven's sake! I was a mess! I was a failure. If I was so good, why was I still an apprentice while Cloudtail was made a warrior?
I must have blacked out for a while from the agony, because when I finally opened my eyes- eye, I rememebered- Cloudtail was curled up around me."Hey! You opened your eye!" He whispered quietly. Wait- did Cloudtail actually care? I burrowed closer to him, and as I blacked out, he hissed, "I love you."
