I had to write this for ELA, and I thought it would be a good fic.

"Her heart was pounding. She was sure she had seen the doorknob turn."

She was thinking about the secret. The secret about what her dad had done. Why hadn't her mom come to the hiding place? She pushed against the door so her dad wouldn't find her.

"No." She said to herself, not her dad. His name was the Swan King. The Swans were a band of people who wanted to kill 99% of the world's population, starting with anyone who wasn't fully human. They were also called the Ninety-nine Percenters. The group was originally started by a group of kids, but they had let the bird kids survive. This group was to kill the mutations.

"Like me" she whispered. She had two percent bird DNA, which was dangerous.

Her friend Hannah's dad was also a Swan, and happened to be one of her dad's most trusted advisors. Hannah also happened to be part bird, but her wings were dark brown, unlike Amber's tawny ones.

All the Swan gang members had secret hideouts in their basement that their families weren't supposed to know about. Each hideout had a tunnel that led to the labyrinth. If you found your way through the labyrinth, you would be in the headquarters. None of Amber's half siblings were anything but human, so they were on her Dad's side.

She heard footsteps, and she slowly opened the door. She gasped at what she saw. Aside from all the bloodstains, there was a the purple scarf her mom always wore lying in shreds on the floor, next to a lone, bloody ice skate. There was no sign of her mom. If her mom was being held hostage at the swan center, she would have to start a rescue mission.

She couldn't bear to think about the other possibility.
