That Night

Imagine we've just boarded a ship, our boots hitting the ground, our rifles are loaded, we're shooting at them-they're getting closer and closer, swinging their swords, they're skeletal, smelling like rotting fish, stinky shoes, pirate's breath, really bad eggs and pigs, eyes staring, evil toothy smiles with no lips… Now, they're close.

I stop shooting and a tall one's swashing his sword at me, I duck and I'm hitting the deck-literally-my hat falls off, I scramble after it. I'm putting on my hat there, an idea pops up in my head as I see the skelly's leg. I reach out, yank it, and the skeletal pirate wobbles and falls on his bony behind dropping his sword.

I take my hat in my hands and I think, wow, this must be my clever hat. I put it on, up came that idea. I'm staring at it and I realize it's saved my life! So I put it back on, take up the skelly's bony leg and sword and I just start swinging at the skellys-'cause they're still coming you know-there were more than one. The one leg less skelly is hopping around on one foot forgetting about the fighting, snatching and trying to take the leg back. I'm waving it around he's hopping after it, in his hurry he's knocking down two of his mates, he hops, trips and crashes into another group of skellys.

Actually, you know it hurts when you do that if you're not careful, so I was feeling a little sorry for him, then I remembered he tried to nick me with his shiny sword. That's not nice you know. Come to think of it, he wasn't trying to nick me. He was trying to cut me! I'm glad I didn't realize that then. I would've been more terrified than I already was! Oh…story right.

I shout "Mully!" he turns around, I toss him the skelly's sword, and they're parrying and attacking and swashing, ducking and jumping. Then I turn around-FLOMP! I'm back on the deck again, the skelly's leg in my hand and I swing, he falls back and I start crawling about swinging at other skelly's legs, watching them go down, with a confused look on their rotting skelly faces, giving my navy mates a chance.

Er…why were Navymen there? We were-we were-prisoners! And…they needed help fighting…Well, there were evil skeletons! Slashing and swinging…

The one legged skelly is getting tired and annoyed with chasing after his leg. He snatches a sword out of one of the other skelly's hands and starts towards me-- that isn't what I wanted. He swings, misses- I plop the leg over the side of the boat. His sword clatters to the ground and he leans over the railing, arms stretched trying to reach it as it bobs away. I glance around making sure everyone else is preoccupied and I just sort of bump him into the water…

"ARRR!"

I turn around and find a short skeletal pirate wearing a dress grinning evilly at me. Something rolls past my feet and another skelly in a dress shoots forward after it. I retrieve my rifle, Mullroy is at my side, and we turn and aim them at the two in dresses.

We're ready to fire when- everything stops. We blink and skeletons are men. They have flesh and hair and smell of common sea sailors instead of stinky, rotting bananas. Mullroy and I grin as the taller in-a-dress pirate pops his eye back in and shorter in-a-dress pirate hopefully says, "Parley?"

That's what happened that night. HUZZAH!
