Sometimes, when he's thinking about nothing else and there's nothing to distract him, he can hear the whisper of those memories he's all but forgotten about.

under a breath of memories

There is something in the silence that calls
to him, in that air in which nothing moves
save the gentle rise and fall of his chest
and the soft pattering of that heart
underneath,

Buried,
just a little bit
behind those memories he's forgotten about
but can still here, ever so faintly
when just the breath pressed through his lips
aren't enough to cover that sound.
