What's up, my peeps! Now you all must be thinking: This isn't Avatar! No, it isn't. If you guys haven't looked at my profile, or read certain author's notes, I'm a huge fan of Steven Universe! It's my favorite show after ATLA and LOK, so I thought it's about time that I write a story about it! If Steven Universe isn't your thing, don't worry, I plan on this account being mainly Avatar, but I might have stories from different shows posted now and then. This takes place during "A Single Pale Rose," which is one of my favorite episodes! The reveal blew my mind, and made me think of the show in whole different way!

Disclaimer: I don't own Steven Universe. This beautiful show belongs to Rebecca Sugar (lol I'm used to writing this disclaimer).

HUGE SPOILERS FOR STEVEN UNIVERSE! IF HAVE NOT SEEN THE EPISODE "A SINGLE PALE ROSE," DON'T READ THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE.

Enjoy!

Pearl was walking along the beach, looking at her phone. It's been a month since she got it, and was still getting used to it. She continued to stroll when she heard a voice behind her.

"Hey, Pearl! Whatcha doing?" The Crystal Gem turned around to see Amethyst running towards her. Pearl smiled.

"Hello, Amethyst. I was just looking at my phone," Pearl calmly replied.

Amethyst smirked as they approached Steven's house. "Doing what?"

Pearl blushed in embarrassment. "Um... turning it on?"

With that said, Amethyst burst out laughing. "Are you serious? Telling the time?" That's when they walked through the screen door of Steven's house. Pearl noticed the boy jump when they arrived. Amethyst continued. "I can't believe you've had your phone for a month, and you haven't used it at all!"

"That's not true!" Pearl denied, sticking her nose in the air, "I use it to tell the time!" The sword fighter noticed Steven groan as Amethyst sat in the kitchen.

Amethyst patted the seat next to her. "Come here, P." The Quartz took out Pearl's phone. "Let's change your wallpaper." Amethyst took a selfie before continuing. "Looks great." Pearl rolled her eyes after Amethyst said that. "Okay, now texting is in the messages. Just click on this screen icon-"

"Pearl, can I ask you-" Steven panically asked.

"Hold on, Stevo," Amerthyst said before waving her hand, "I'm in the middle of a demonstration. Hey, anyway... then you can type pretty much anything you want." Pearl took the phone from Amethyst and typed a message to Steven. The message wrote: Dear Steven, Hello. Love, Pearl

"You should get a case for that thing," Amerthyst suggested.

"I do," Pearl replied before tapping her gem, in which a suitcase came out.

"Okay," Amethyst replied, "I have a whole bunch of actual phone cases in my room. Don't go and throw that thing against a rock or anything until I'm back."

Amethyst went into her room before Steven walked over to Pearl.

"Pearl?" Steven nervously asked.

"What is it, Steven?" the Crystal Gem calmly asked.

"You remember how Mom shattered Pink Diamond?" After Steven said that, a wave of fear washed over Pearl, all she did was blink as Steven continued, "Well, I was wondering, if maybe, you shattered Pink Diamond."

That's when Pearl started to panic. "I-" she started before her hands covered her mouth, and her phone dropped onto the floor.

"It's okay," Steven consoled, "You can tell me."

Pearl tried to pry her hands off her mouth, but with little success. All Steven heard were a bunch of muffled noises.

"Why can't you just talk to me about this?" Steven desperately asked. While this was happening, Pearl noticed something different in Steven. He wasn't the happy-go-lucky kid he had used to be. He had grown not much physically, but a lot mentally and emotionally. Before, Steven would just go with the flow, follow the gems, do what he could. Now, Steven took his own initiative. He would look for answers, and almost nothing would stop him. His training had gone far; he pretty much was a capable fighter, having been in many battles. The Gems didn't have to take care of him anymore, he could take care of himself.

Amethyst then returned. "I got the..." She noticed the situation, as her sentence trailed off, "...phone case."

Pearl slowly unhinged her hands from her mouth before shouting, "Ah yes the phone case, thank you Amethyst!" Pearl took her phone and stored it in her gem."Whoops, so clumsy, it's probably safer I just keep it in here."

Pearl walked in a weird manner, carrying her suitcase towards the Temple as Amethyst held out the palm tree phone case to her.

"Wait, come on, just put it in this then put it in your head," Amethyst told Pearl before the sword fighter entered her room in the Temple, the door closed behind her. Amethyst looked at Steven in confusion and asked, "What was that?"

Steven only sighed.

In her room in the Temple, Pearl began to panic as she walked on the waterfalls in her room. "What am I going to do?! Steven keeps pressing on! I want to tell him, but I can't! But he needs to know that Rose is-" She was cut off by her hands covering her mouth. She gave up talking as her hands came off. "Oh, you know what I'm talking about." Pearl sighed. "I wish I could talk to Garnet about this, but she doesn't know about it either. Ruby and Sapphire would go crazy." The Crystal Gem got to the top waterfall, and frowned. She closed her eyes, and used her gem to project that same moment that she showed Steven at the Strawberry Battlefield. A projected Rose appeared. Pearl knelt down before her.

Pearl began to speak the lines.

"Pearl..."

"Yes?"

"I'm going to stay and fight for this planet. You don't have to do this with me."

"But I want to!"

"I know you do. Please, please understand if we lose, we'll be killed, and if we win, we can never go home."

"But why would I ever want to go home, if you're here?"

Holo-Rose chuckled, and held her hand out to Pearl.

"My Pearl."

"You're wonderful." Pearl took Holo-Rose's hand, and she disappeared.

"Everything I ever did, I did for her," Pearl muttered her old words to herself before clenching her fists, "Everything I ever do, I do it for him..." She then hugged herself, and began to cry, her tears splashing against the water beneath her. No one came, no one saw her, she just sat there, her memories haunting her. They were what drived what she did. Everything thing in her life, was because of her memories, of her life, of... her. She was her fuel for being there for him, she was her fuel for breaking from the status quo, becoming a Pearl that can fight, have her own identity, she was her fuel for, being her own person. Pearl's eyes widened. Have I ever done something for myself? When have any or my fights, or actions, not been for her? She contemplated.

The tears fell for a few more minutes, before Pearl recollected herself, and walked out of the Temple. She looked around for something that would cheer her up. Her eyes fell on a vacuum. Chores were always a guilty pleasure for Pearl, so she plugged it in, and began to clean. She was vacuuming the warp pad when Steven bursted through the door.

"Pearl, I'm ready to talk!" the boy shouted.

"What?" Pearl yelled over the raging vacuum.

"I got your text!" Steven announced, before Pearl walked over to him and he showed her the text, "'I want to tell you, but I can't?' With a monkey emoji?"

"Steven, I didn't send that," Pearl told him, "I haven't used my phone since I put it away this morning."

"Maybe you butt dialed me?" Steven guessed, "With your gem?"

"No, that's impossible!" Pearl stated, "Hang on, I'll pull it out and we'll get to the bottom of this." She summoned her gem, and different items popped out. Some Steven recognized from past adventures.

"Pearl, are you okay?" Steven asked concerned.

"I know it's in there somewhere!" Pearl sincerely told him.

Steven's phone vibrated. "You just sent another one!"

Pearl looked at the new message, which showed a hibiscus flower emoji. Her eyes widened as memories flew through her head.

She bent down to Steven's level and grasped his shoulders. "Steven, I need you to go inside my gem and find my phone."

"What?!" Steven asked, flabbergasted, "Is it stuck in there or something?"

"There are certain things I can't tell you, but I can tell you that I need my phone. Please. I can bring you back out once you find what you're looking for."

"Your phone?"

"Exactly. I'll keep your phone, text me with mine when you find it." Steven nodded in understanding, and Pearl sent him into her gem.

She sighed. "I hope you find what you're looking for, Steven. It's about time you know."
