It was 10 in the morning on a frosty Saturday that was spend unusual quiet in the McCord household. The kids were already chattering in the kitchen, but there was no sight of the McCord parents yet. Usually, they were already up by now for rare family weekends or going into the office on short notice.
"Maybe they got called in for work?" Alison suggested.
"Without leaving a note? Yeah, right." Jason replied ironically.
"I don't think they went anywhere." Stevie interfered. " Their coats are still here. I guess they just decided to sleep in."
Meanwhile in the master bedroom, Elizabeth stirred slowly and tried to orientate herself. She freed herself from Henry's arm that rested on her belly. Looking around she finally remembered the events of last night. They had come home late from the White House after attending some kind of dinner with the president and other very important officials. Somehow, they had managed to steal a bottle of overly priced champagne and got very drunk on the way home while diplomatic security had to deal with the driving part of going home. Once they entered the house, they somehow made it to their bedroom without waking the kids and Henry was all over her as soon as they closed the door behind them. They enjoyed quite an after-party and managed to throw clothes and sheets everywhere. Elizabeth looked at the mess they had created the previous night and wondered how long it would take to clean it up. Suddenly her eyes landed on the alarm clock realizing how late it was. She turned towards Henry and shook his shoulders to wake him up, but he just grunted and turned away from her.
"Henry, get up. It's already past ten. I bet the kids are wondering what we're up to." Elizabeth tried again.
"So? Let them wonder." He mumbled without even opening his eyes. Elizabeth sighed loudly and decided to get up anyway, but before she could push the covers off of her Henry grabbed her hand and pulled her down to him.
"Where do you think you're going?" He asked, finally looking at her with sleepy eyes.
"I was gonna check on the kids." Elizabeth replied while gazing up to Henry who was hovering above her.
"Babe, come on. They are old enough to manage breakfast on their own. Let's just stay here for a couple more minutes." Henry said and snuggled closer to her. "Besides, I'm way to hungover to deal with them now. My head feels like it's gonna explode any minute from now." Elizabeth chuckled and gave him a quick peck.
"Same here." Elizabeth replied while closing her eyes again. One more minute wouldn't hurt, she said to herself.
A couple of minutes later, she was suddenly woken by a knock on the door.
"Mom, Dad? Are you there?" Stevie called from the other side. Elizabeth looked at Henry and saw that he was out like a light.
"Yeah, we're here." Elizabeth whispered into the direction of the door.
"Can I come in?" Stevie asked. Elizabeth quickly covered herself and her husband as much as possible before calling her in. Stevie opened the door quietly and entered. She was more than surprised to find her dad still asleep, but taking in the sight in front of her, she counted one and one together.
"Wow, looks like you had a rough night." Stevie joked while looking at the mess.
"Very funny. I admit, we might have drank a little more than we should have." Elizabeth confessed with a blush. "Seriously though, what's up?" She asked while glancing at Henry who didn't move at all.
"We were just worried about you two, because it's already half past ten and you weren't down there yet." Stevie explained while already walking back to the door. "But now that I see what you were doing last night..." Stevie left that unfinished while exiting the room. She was almost out of the door when Elizabeth called her back.
"Stevie wait. Please don't say anything to your brother and sister about this, okay?" Elizabeth said while gesturing to all the clothes and sheets on the floor.
"Don't worry mom. That's nothing I like to talk about voluntarily." Stevie left and Elizabeth let out a sigh. Looking at Henry, she chuckled once again and wondered how he could be so oblivious. Running her fingers through his hair, she decided to let him sleep while she was gonna take a shower. She got up and walked to the bathroom completely naked, unaware of the fact that Henry was watching her from where he lay in bed. "Damn," he thought, " I have the most beautiful wife in the whole world." He finally got out of bed himself and followed Elizabeth to the bathroom.
