Okay, this is a little piece that popped in my head recently while listening to Payphone by Maroon 5. It's not much.

She had always been a headstrong, curious person. She read the princess stories that every little girl reads; she didn't really identify with them. She loved the adventure in the stories; climbing the castle walls and slaying the dragons. She didn't understand about the princesses and waiting for a prince to come and rescue you. She retained this independent streak as she grew older.

Chloe came to realize that fairy tales weren't real, but there were good guys and bad guys. There was definitely a battle between them. She had experienced enough danger and intrigue to rival any of those often told story. But, it was the romantic portion of the story that was the reason for her current emotional turmoil.

Chloe sighed, leaning her head against the payphone her hand hovering over the receiver. After several false starts, more than one being disastrous, she had finally seemed to find a happy ending. But, she left her own knight in green leather behind. It seemed like that was what was always happening to her. Either someone was leaving her or she was doing the leaving. It seemed that she would never have story book ending that she had silently wished for.

She just wanted to hear Oliver's voice. She had left without even a good bye because she knew she wouldn't have left at all if she had. She had left and wasn't sure when or if she was going to be able to return.

Chloe closed her eyes, her hand dropping to her side. "No!"

Chloe looked resolutely at the phone. She was going to finish what she started.

Turning away from the phone, she pulled up the hood of her jacket. A small smile graced her face. Her story was far from over. She had a mission to accomplish. The princess could not be saved in the middle of the story even if she had to go and rescue the knight herself.
