It was a lovely morning. The sun was shining brightly, and the birds were singing. Garfield was particularly not happy, as it was a Monday. The cat pulled the covers over his head, yawning and rolling over. "I hate Mondays." he recited over and over in his head, as he heard Jon grumpily pulling out a coffee mug.
"Darn, today is the day I promised myself I would take a walk. But it's just so bright out, and I forgot my sunglasses at the restaurant we ate at last night!" Jon said, pouring coffee into the mug. He sighed, looking at the sleeping cat. "You know, Garfield? Sometimes I wish you could talk." Jon said. Garfield opened one eye.
"You know, Jon? I can talk, it's just humans are too dumb to understand." he said quietly. Jon sipped some coffee.
"Garfield, sometimes I actually think you reply to me!" he said, excitedly. Garfield let a smile come upon his face.
"Jon, sometimes I think you need mental help, because I do reply. You just don't listen." Garfield said with a wink. He jumped up onto the counter top and lay down there, looking across the street at the cat standing next to a big dog. "Poor fella." he said, looking down at Odie. "Well, you don't get stuck with the dumb one." he said. Jon looked down.
"Hey, Garfield? Your turning a year older real soon." he said, petting the cat. Suddenly the phone rang. "I'll get it." Jon said as he walked over to the telephone.
"Hello? This is Jon Arbuckle. No, this is not Pizza Palace. Good-bye." he said, putting the phone down. "You know, we've been getting a lot of calls lately that weren't for us. Like the Fire Department, the Pizza Palace, McDougall's, a lot of things!" he said. Garfield smirked.
"You never get a joke, do you?" he said. "Oh yeah, and the neighbor kid did the McDougall's one," he laughed.
