Why I write for so many different fandoms is beyond me. Guess I just like a lot of things.
It's been a while since I last wrote anything, so I asked my friend for a challenge. Using five themes, I had to write a story from a minor character's point of view. And although Naminé isn't really a MINOR character, she isn't a major character either. So here it is - my first ever Kingdom Hearts drabble.
Disclaimer: I do not own Kingdom Hearts or its characters.
The Duties of a Witch
"Seasons pass, and yet the boy is not whole."
A castle shrouded in darkness. An endless, white room. A large, sealed crystal pod. Three people who share the same soul.
The girl looked at the drawings before her. Slowly, she raised a hand and tentatively reached towards the sketch of the pod, tracing it with her finger. Then she looked around her room, memories flashing before her eyes.
"I promise, I won't forget you!"
Naminé placed a hand against her chest, over her heart that did not exist. The memory of the boy, Sora, who had so easily forgiven her after all that she had done, was still clear in her mind. She had manipulated his memories, placing herself within them and erasing him from the hearts of his friends. And now, he was sleeping in order to restore the bonds that had been severed.
"I never wanted to do that to him," she told herself. "And now, everything has become so much more complicated."
The Nobody, Roxas as she had been told, was similar to her. He was more than just a being without a heart. And with Sora's memories flowing into him, she had anticipated the restoration to take but a few months, his Nobody being the key to his awakening.
However, she had not anticipated the birth of another being.
One born from the boy's memories of the girl he cared for. Her existence conflicted with Roxas and sooner or later, one would have to destroy the other, in order for Sora to wake up. Naminé knew that, for as long as the being existed, his restoration would halt. The time that it would take until his awakening was suddenly unclear.
She looked once more to the picture she had drawn; one of three people - a boy with spiky, brown hair, one with golden hair, and a dark-haired girl. They were holding hands and smiling, united at last. Naminé smiled sadly.
'Three people; different, yet the same. How long will it be until they are finally one?'
She looked down at her hands, small and pale. Yet, within them lay the power to change the lives of so many beings. Through her drawings, she could fabricate and destroy bonds, create and destroy people within their minds. It was a power she was afraid of. And now, she would have no choice but to use it again.
'I'm sorry Roxas, Xion.'
A breeze wafted into the room through the open window, making the curtains flutter gently.
'Sora.'
Slowly, she walked towards it and placed her hand against the glass, looking out at the gates of the mansion - her home. She then turned her gaze towards the forest that lay beyond, rows of trees stretching as far as her eyes could see.
'I'm sorry for everything, and I promise to return you to the way you once were.'
Smiling wistfully, Naminé looked up at the ever-orange sky.
'Even if you never remember.'
It may be a little flawed here and there, since details are hard to grasp, but I tried my best. Please R&R - I'd like to hear your thoughts and/or constructive crit :)
