Summary: Mother-Daughter moment between Bella and Esme as they watch Renesmee sleep. In Bella's POV
Disclaimer: Not Stephenie Meyer, so I don't own the characters…
I was sitting next to my baby girl on her little bed, watching her sleep and holding her little hand to my face. I watched her dream of Edward, Jacob, the whole family including Charlie. Most of all, my face made the most appearances.
After everything that has happened to our family with the Volturi (who have thankfully left us alone), these moments of peace feel even more special and precious. Even though it has been nearly a month since the confrontation, I still finding myself treasuring every second we have, whether it be with Charlie, the Cullens, the wolves, Edward or my daughter.
Tonight the boys had gone out hunting up North and Alice went with Rosalie on a shopping trip, but I had volunteered to stay behind with Nessie. I could hear Esme come into the room and looked up at her as she sat in the rocking chair by the window. We had taken the chair from my room at Charlie's so that it would get some use here.
We sat quietly watching my daughter's peaceful sleep. Finally she looked up, and met my eyes with decades of suppressed sadness in hers. She smiled softly at me.
"It brings me such joy to see you with her, Bella." She said quietly so Renesmee would not wake. "I miss my own baby boy so much…I never thought I would get the chance to be around another baby, and I'm so happy for you both." If vampires could cry, I know that we both would be bawling.
"I can't imagine the pain of losing a child, Esme." I looked down at the sleeping child, running my fingers through her bronze curls. "I cannot picture my life with Renesmee now," I looked back up at her. "That's why I admire you so much."
She looked shocked. "How can you say that? I tried to kill myself when I lost my baby. I should be one of the last people you admire."
"I admire you because when you were given another chance at life, you were able to… look past your pain. You became a mother to Edward, Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper and Alice, and now you've become a second mother to me." I stood up and walked around the bed to crouch in front of Esme. "You were able to be a shoulder to cry on, a voice of reason and a true mother in every sense of the word to all of them and now to me! You have to know how important you are to us!"
Again, if she could be crying…
"Thank you, Bella." She said, reaching her hand to stroke my cheek. "You all have become my children, my family. I love you all so much."
We sat there, me on the floor and her in the chair, staring at my daughter who had inspired this moment. Dawn came, and with it a stronger bond between Esme and I.
