This is kind of set after Eclipse, so don't read it if you haven't read Eclipse.

"Bella," said Edward, his lips still on Bella's hair. "I believe your wolf friend is at the door." Bella sighed, sad that she couldn't continue making out with her gorgeous vampire boyfriend, and stood up.

"Jake?" she called through the door.

"It's me," said a voice Bella recognized as belonging to her good friend Jacob. With a grin, she opened the door to let him in. He sniffed the air, and made a face. "God, your house reeks of leeches." Bella sighed again.

"Please, don't make jabs at each other when I'm here," she said, glaring at the vampire and the werewolf. "If you insult each other one more time, I'm leaving."

"Jacob, aren't you going to tell Bella why you're here?" asked Edward, having obviously scored Jacob's mind with his own. "You'd best get it over with, so you can leave sooner." Bella glared, but said nothing.

"Fine," said Jacob. "My dad wanted to go fishing on Sunday with Charlie, up at the reservation. Is he here?"

"Yeah. I'll go get him. Is it okay to leave you two alone together?" she asked. They both nodded, and she left the room. Jacob and Edward glared at each other from opposite sides of the room. Neither one spoke. I wonder what Bella sees in him that I don't have, though Jacob, not caring that Edward was probably listening in at the moment he thought those words.

He met the vampire's eyes, challenging him to explain why Bella loved him so passionately. Silence was kept for a few more seconds, and then, suddenly, Jacob felt a huge jolt along his spine. It was as if his heart was on fire, and Jacob was filled with electrifying energy... and then he collapsed, and everything went dark for a few seconds. He quickly regained consciousness, but didn't open his eyes right away. He had a feeling he knew what had just happened. He tried not to think the thought, but it was too late.

"I sincerely apologize for anything I did to bring this on," said Edward, tonelessly as ever. "But there's nothing that either of us can do about this now."

"Shit," said Jacob. "I didn't even think it was possible." He tried not to look at Edward, but his eyes just wouldn't obey him. As soon as Edward came into his range of vision, Jacob inhaled sharply. He quickly lowered his eyes again, his heart pounding. "Shit," he said again. He tried to guard his thoughts from Edward as he realized how attractive Edward truly was… how vibrant his hair was, how perfect his shoulders, his lips…

Before he even knew what he was doing, he got up and strode once more across the room, and he leaned forward, towards the vampire, willing himself to go against nature, against the natural enmity between werewolves and vampires… and briefly, for just a second, his lips brushed against those of Edward, and the energy he had felt when he collapsed roared within him, flying up his spine. Then Edward pulled away. For a second, Jacob thought he saw a flash of longing cross Edward's face. But then it was gone.

"Think of Bella," Edward whispered.

"I don't…" Jacob started to say, and then Bella appeared at the doorway, her hands on her hips.

"No fighting, guys!" she said. "Oh, and Jake, Charlie can go. You look kind of weird. Can I get you a glass of water or something? Or is this some weird werewolf thing?"

"Actually," said Jacob, "it is kind of a werewolf thing." Bella looked at him curiously. "I imprinted," he explained. A panicked look crossed her face. "Not on you. On Edward."
