This is set during Book 2. I do not own the characters or lyrics- the song is Proud from Britannia High. Hope you enjoy!
Col watched his father in the distance, laughing and joking with his motorbike friends, and prayed with all his heart that he wouldn't grow up to be like him.
All of my life, I have watched you
Climbing mountains, chasing dreams
For the whole of Col's life hi father had been vacant; off on various expeditions somewhere which no one knew. Now he was back, and so was his mother. They both were acting like they'd always been the perfect parents and always been there for him. Now he had to choose sides.
But he didn't want to.
All of my life, you gave me everything
But you don't have to give the world to me.
Neither of them seemed to realise what they were doing wrong.
Just say you love me as I…
Say you want me as I am.
Say I'm someone in your eyes.
Even though Mack had never been there, he still felt shrouded by the long shadow he cast.
That's all I've wanted to be
If you let me go I know one day if I'm allowed,
If I'm allowed,
One day I'll make you proud.
Now Col had his parents back, he'd begun to think twice about his wishes to have them. 'Be careful what you wish for…' Col had always thought he understood what this meant. Now he had a whole new idea.
All of your life, you've taken chances
Broke the rules, time after time
Both Mack and Cassandra were renowned for their carelessness and ignorance of the rules. Everyone seemed to think that Col was going to turn out exactly like them. He was determined to prove them all wrong.
All of you life, you've gone your own way
Please give me this chance and I'll go mine.
Mack had left Col to his mother, who he'd lived with until the age of five. Cassandra obviously got fed up of looking after Col and sent him off to his grandmother. Now both his parents were back; both fighting to get Col on their side. Neither seemed to actually love Col for who he was.
Why can't you say you love me as I…
Say you want me as I am,
Say I'm someone in your eyes.
If you let me go I know one day if I'm allowed,
If I'm allowed,
One day I'll make you proud.
Col tried to hold back the tears that threatened to spill over his eyes. You're too old to cry, he told himself stubbornly.
Trying to please you now is all I seem to do.
I'm holding my dreams down; it's breaking me in two.
I've got to be me now, 'cause there's already one of you.
Col wouldn't be another Mack. He wouldn't.
I'm on my knees, so help me please.
He wouldn't be like either of them.
He'd wanted his parents back his whole life; but not this way. He didn't want there to have to be a choice. A choice that would hurt one of them.
He didn't want either of them.
He wanted them both.
Col had never been more confused in his life.
Please don't shoot me down.
Though you can't see it now,
Someday I'll make you proud.
Please review and tell me what you thought- I've never done something like this.
