It Wasn't Meant to Be
Hi again folks! I had to right this story. I was going out of my mind by not writing it. The characters practically bugged me. This story is very sad, but it has a happy ending. This is before Pan, but at the end, Pan is born. So read and review please.
"And this chart shows the amount of money made over the past five years," stated one executive.
Gohan was busy taking notes. Ring! Ring! It was Gohan's cell phone. "Hello? Mom? What's going on? Videl's in labor? An hour ago? Oh man. I'll be there as soon as I can get out of this meeting. Bye."
Gohan put away his cell phone. "Uh excuse me, sir? May I be excused? My wife's in labor and I really need to go be with here as soon as possible."
"You can leave as soon as I finish my speech," replied the man, "But not before."
"Great," muttered Gohan. I don't need to hear about the company's plans. I need to go be with Videl. Why can't he understand that? Stupid fool.
The executive's speech went on for another 30 minutes. " You may leave now, Gohan," he said. Gohan was already way ahead of him. He was running out the door.
Gohan flew to Satan City Hospital as fast as he could. "Excuse me nurse. Where is the Maternity Ward?"
"Down that hallway."
"Thanks." Gohan ran down the hall to the Maternity Ward.
When he arrived in the waiting room, there was a doctor waiting there. "Are you Gohan?" he asked.
"Yes. Why do you ask?"
"Sit down son. We need to talk."
Gohan sat down. " What about? I need to see my wife."
"That's what I need to talk to you about."
"Oh no. What's wrong? Is Videl okay?"
"Videl's fine. It's about the baby. It died during labor."
Gohan began to cry. "My god no! Why did this have to happen?"
"I think you should go see Videl now. She needs to be comforted. She won't listen to me. She only wants to see you."
"Where is her room?"
"Down the hall. Third door on the right. It's room 107."
Gohan wiped his eyes. "Thanks." He walked slowly down the hall. Videl must be devastated. Why did this happen? Why to us? It was our first. Gohan stopped in front of room 107. He took a deep breath and opened the door.
When Videl saw Gohan, she began crying harder. Gohan rushed over. He put his arms around her, and she laid her head on his shoulder. "What could have happened? What went wrong? We were both healthy. Why didn't the baby live?" asked Videl in a tear-filled voice.
"Maybe it just wasn't meant to be," replied Gohan.
"Why?"
"I don't know."
"But why, Gohan?"
"I don't know Videl, but we can make it through this. I know we can."
"I don't know, Gohan. The pain hurts too much."
"Some day the pain will go away."
"When?"
"That will depend on you," answered Gohan.
"I don't think it will ever go away."
"Some day it will and you will be ready to have another baby."
"Okay," sniffed Videl.
*2 years later*
"Come on, Videl. You can do it," encouraged Gohan.
"One more push, Videl. We're almost done," said the doctor.
A few minutes later a baby's cry was heard. Videl fell back onto her pillow, completely exhausted. " Congratulations you two. You have a healthy baby girl," said the doctor as he handed the baby to Videl. The baby stopped crying at once.
"She's so beautiful. She looks like you, Videl."
"She looks a little bit like her father, too," added Videl.
"What shall we call her?" questioned Gohan.
"We shall call her Pan, " answered Videl.
