Mitchie's POV

It was right after Final Jam, and I was supposed to meet Shane at the lake for a canoe ride. I walked down to the lake and waited for Shane to come. I thought about all that happened this summer and how wonderful it was, and how I made such great friends even after what happened. The music, of course, was the best part of it, well, other than Shane. I saw Shane come; I quickly turned around and fixed my hair, hoping I looked okay.

"Hey Mitchie"

I turned around "Why hello Mr. Grey."

"So you ready for our canoe ride?"

I smiled. "You bet"

After we got our life jackets on and got into the canoe I asked him "So... are we going to go in circles this time?"

Shane laughed and said "Yeah, probably, I didn't really have much time to practice." We both laughed. It didn't really matter; the going in circles is what made it our thing.

"So Mitchie...?" Shane asked

"Yeah, Shane?"

"Can I ask you something?"

I looked at him and said:"Um... sure."

"Why did you lie about everything this whole summer?"

I froze and looked down, and said in a quiet voice. "I don't know, I guess I wanted to just fit in." I felt a tear go down my cheek, and Shane came forward and wiped it away with his thumb. Then he lifted my chin up gently and looked at me in the eyes. I looked at him, but then I just looked back down. I couldn't believe I had lied to him, now that I realize how close I came to losing the only guy to ever like me.

Shane then took my hand and said "Hey, I didn't want to make you upset, we don't have to talk about it if you don't want to."

I looked up and said "No Shane, I think we should talk about this, you should know." I needed this off my chest. "I always wanted to fit in I guess, I was always invisible at school and I have only one friend back home, I thought if I lied, then I would fit in, but then I didn't need to lie or do anything. I just needed to be myself."

Shane smiled at me and I smiled back. Then Shane said "You know why it hurt me so much that you lied to me?"

"Why Shane?"

He grinned and said "Because I started to really like you."

My eyes went really wide "What?!"

"It's true Mitchie, I really like you, you're the only one who understands me, you're easy to talk to, and you're very beautiful inside and out."

I couldn't help but blush. "That's so sweet Shane..." I guess I should tell him my feelings as well

"I really like you too"

"Really?"

I laughed "Yes Shane, I do."

Shane smiled at me then he started to lean in. This was the moment I thought he was finally going to kiss me.

But not everything happens as planned... "MITCHIE!" I turned around, and there was my mother. "I need some help." I love my mom, but did she really have to come right now?

I turned around "Coming..." my mom then left and I looked over at Shane. I sighed in disappointment "Sorry Shane, I've got to go"

He smiled "That's okay, I'll see you later?"

"Sure" I got off the canoe. We didn't even leave, were we actually just sitting there the whole time? I then started walking, but then Shane pulled my hand "Yes Shane?"

"I wanted to give you something"

"What?"

Then he brought me closer and kissed me. After a couple of seconds or maybe it was hours, Shane let go of me, I started blushing and said "Umm... I've got to go now"

Shane looked at me and smiled "Meet me tonight here okay?"

"What, another canoe ride?"

He laughed "Maybe..."

I smiled at him "I wouldn't miss it"
