With all the posts after "Wannabe," I had to get in on the fun. This is a oneshot hospital scene written before the PITH
I don't own Bones, but the people who come up with this stuff 15-22 weeks out of the year...not perfect, but pure genius.
Reviews are appreciated. I'll try to do better about leaving reviews for others.
She waits, listening to the rhythmic sounds of the device monitoring his heart.
Within her there is a struggle. Regarding matters of the man lying helpless and injured in the hospital bed beside her chair, that struggle has so often threatened the stoic demeanor and logic of a pure and rational scientist.
She knows he is alive. The doctors told her that the next 24 hours after his surgery are crucial, but it looks like he's going to pull through.
Her brain, her reasonable, empirical thought process tells her he will. It is Booth, after all. He's proven over and over again that he doesn't give up. He won't give up.
But desperately she needs to touch him, to feel his warmth under her skin.
It isn't logical.
She can plainly see the monitors telling her his heart is beating. Yet her heart tells her she needs to listen to his heartbeat beneath her ears to know that it is real. That he is still with her.
"Brain and heart Bones. Brain and heart"
She replays his words from a few weeks before over and over and a single thought crosses her mind.
How absurd it would be for her crawl into his hospital bed and lay next to him. And yet, she still wants to.
She almost chuckles when she realizes the irony that the only man capable of convincing her to put her scientist brain to the side and popping her heart into overdrive is currently unable to do so.
So she waits, listening to the rhythmic sounds of the device monitoring her heart.
