There is only one way to eat an orange. Children in whatever parts of the world where there are oranges know this.
Step one is peeling the orange. This is done with much finesse and usually gets orange peel juice all over everyone. If it doesn't, it's common practice to squirt each other with orange peel juice, on the basis that it smells good.
Step two is picking the white stuff from the inside of the peel off the orange.
Step three, you split the orange in half and take the bit of stuff that runs through the middle out.
Step four, carefully divide the orange into however many parts are needed.
Step five is a short brawl or argument over who got the biggest piece.
Step six is eating the orange. The orange can be eaten three ways. 1) Popping the whole slice into your mouth and biting down. 2) Taking bites out of your slice or 3) the way usually reserved for slow summer afternoons. Peeling back the thin skin of your orange slice and eating it one juice sack at a time. It is important to note that the orange isn't eaten properly unless you get good and sticky doing it.
Step seven is washing up. This step is optional. The best way to perform this step is choosing the stickiest person and dunking him or her in the duckpond.
Adam watched with a smile as Wensleydale and Pepper dragged Brian toward the duckpond, before running and catching up with them. He loved oranges.
