A New Hero

William sat in the Arrow Cave, solving the toughest math equations he's ever seen. His dad, The Green Arrow, who wore his suit entered through the elevator holding his bow tight. "Hey, William!" He said walking by. "What are you up to?"

"Just homework!" He answered. Oliver nodded and stepped next to Felicity who seemed very attentive to the computer.

"Oliver, look," she pointed to the monitor. A speck of electricity charged on the building in the center of Central City. It was a powerful source, even Oliver grew concerned. "It's an explosive. It's on countdown. We can't stop it."

"What?"

"It's on countdown!"

"Well, we can't just sit here and do nothing! You have to make something! We could use Curtis right now!"

"Did someone just call my name?" Curtis entered the room holding a bag of Big Belly Burger. "And yes, I did drive 600 miles just for some burgers!" He stopped when he saw the worry on their faces. "What now?"

"There's an explosive that could wipe out the whole city on countdown!" Felicity said. Curtis held up the bag.

"Can I eat this first?" Oliver drew an arrow and shot the bag out of Curtis's hand. It fell to the ground, smushed.

"Really dude? Rude!"

"This is important!" He practically shouted. "Just find a way to shut it off!"

"Oliver, there's only three hours left!" Felicity bit her lip. "There's no way we could..."

"You two are the smartest people I've ever met. I believe in you." William looked over. He's been watching all of them save a bunch of lives.

"Could I do anything to help?" he asked innocently.

Oliver smiled. "We'll find a way! Don't worry about it!" William nodded unsurely. That's what they say every time.

Oliver waited impatiently next to William for an antidote. "Do you mind?" Oliver handed William a tennis ball and he threw it across the room. Oliver grabbed an arrow and fired the bull string, hitting its target and the ball got pinned to the wall.

"Nice one!" William complemented.

"Thanks. I do it when I'm stressed." Felicity yelled for Oliver.

"I think we have it!" Oliver examined what Curtis held. It was a tiny flash drive. "This should be able to stop the explosion! You just need to stick it into its system! I'll give you information on the comm!" Curtis reached to Oliver with the drive but pulled it back.

"We sense there are traps at every corner. Be careful," he put it in his palm and closed it tight. Oliver nodded.

"I'll be okay! Always am!" He walked over to William. "Okay, stay here. Alright buddy? I'll be back as soon as I can!" He ruffled William's hair. "Tell Digg to get over here!"

"He's with Lyla, I'll call him!" Curtis took his phone out of his pocket.

"Go save the city," William set his pencil down. Oliver grinned and squeezed the flash drive tightly in his palm. It was up to him now!

Oliver stepped into the building, he pressed his ear. "Where is the bomb?"

"Third floor, stairs on your right!" Felicity spoke through the comm. The Green Arrow did what he was told and ran up the stairs. "Wait, Oliver stop!" Suddenly, his foot hit a wire that was planted on the ground. "It's a trap!"

Felicity heard a big explosion coming from where Oliver was. "Oliver?" she asked. "Oliver? Oliver, answer me! Oliver!"

"Overwatch! It's all right! I'm okay! But my knee is stuck! I can't move!" A piece of the brick had fallen on the vigilante, the flash drive he still held on tight to.

"Can you get up?"

"No! Felicity, I can't move!" William overheard everything. "I won't be able to get the flash drive in the system! What do I do?" His voice was calm enough, hoping to make Felicity feel less stressed.

William looked at his hands and rolled them into a fist. It's time for a new hero. While Felicity was trying to help Oliver move, William slipped off and onto the streets. He had to save his dad. And the city!

William appeared at the building and walked inside. Smoke filled the air, he coughed making his way up the stairs. "Dad?" he called. "Dad?"

"William?" Oliver was around the corner. "William, what are you doing? Get out of here!" He coughed. "It's too dangerous!" William tried to lift the brick, but it wouldn't budge. "William, listen to me. Go back!"

At this point, he wasn't listening. He was thinking of a plan. "Give me the flash drive," William blurted out.

"What?"

"Let me do it! Let me stop the bomb!"

"William..."

"Dad! Trust me on this one!" Oliver sighed and gave the flash drive to him.

"Just do one thing for me, put your hood on!" He grinned weakly. William did so.

William spoke out, "I'll be careful! Always am!" He made his way above the stairs making sure he didn't trigger another trap.

In the distance, was a bright red flash of light. It beeped every second. The time read was counting down from 10. William ran ahead toward the bomb. An alarm set off. He jumped back and a piece of brick landed just inches ahead of him. It had set on fire! There was no way across!

He closed his eyes. 'Make a way, make a way, make a way!' He grabbed ahold of an umbrella and stuck it into the burnt side of the wall, that was melted off. He picked his feet up and swung across the fire.

Beep!

William stuck the flash drive in the machine. The closest whole toward them! He sighed in relief wiping his forehead. How did his dad manage to do this every day?

"How did it feel?" Digg asked. "Your first rescue?"

"It wasn't his first!" Oliver grinned. The damage to the leg hadn't been severe. Just fractured. "You did great buddy!" William smiled.

"How about Big Belly Burger? To celebrate a new hero!" Curtis exclaimed.

'A New Hero,' William thought. He liked the sound of that!
