Summary: It's too bad that the people of Sunagakure never heard the phrase "Self-Fulfilling Prophecy." Maybe more of them would have survived. Dark. A quick one-shot on a young Gaara, told from first person. Prompted by ElwynWanderer.
Prompt: Uzumaki Naruto was not the only jinchuuriki had a bad childhood. What about Nii Yugito, Kirabi, and Gaara?
A/N: This one isn't as dark as I would have liked, but I guess it's passable.
Insanity's Smile
"I'm not crazy," I whisper to myself as I curl up in a ball. "I'm not."
I startle as an evil voice cackles in the back of my head. The ocean drags you down, down, down. The ocean of blood drags you down to the bottom of all.
I desperately clamp my hands over my ears. "No! Shut up, shut up, shut up!" I scream desperately. "Stop it!"
You can't stop yourself. I am you and you are me. Monster, gold , shattered glass…let the warm blood flow down the pass.
"No…" I whimper.
Death. Kill what hurts, kill those who don't care. Destroy the world, destroy the people. Never forget your pain and surrender your will to me. Kill them all, watch their crimson lifeblood flow out of their cooling body…
A man opened the door in front of me. "Hey, Kid," he stops speaking as I look up. "Oh, it's just the monster," he sneers.
I'm not a monster!
I don't realize I scream it out loud.
Kill them all. Death, blood, destruction. Destroy what hurts, surrender to my power.
Sand flows up from the ground, surrounding the man and crushing him.
A rain of blood. The blood mixes with the sand, granting the user an even greater power.
A twisted smile spreads across my face.
That's right. Find your existence in the death of others. You exist to kill others, so kill them all.
Insanity's smile.
