Hey guys! I've decided to be on a different focus with this, since my past stories, while they were acceptable, I felt like there was one flaw with them: There was an OC. And I do have a theory: SpongeBob's fanfictions aren't actually precisely good if they involve an OC in between them, and despite the fact that I loved the pseudo-love triangle I've made between Sandy, SpongeBob and a squirrel OC in past fanfictions, I've felt like I was getting out of sense. That's why I've decided to take a different course: A story that is an acceptable head-cannon. How to do it, you may ask? Well, easy: No OCs, a more SpongeBob-focused plot, and also, NO OCS. Have I already said no OCs? Yeah, I think I did. Well, anyways, enjoy! And also, please be sure to Review IF and only IF you liked it OR you think it needs some change. Anyways, enjoy!

Nuts and bubbles – A SpongeBob Squarepants Fanfiction.

Chapter 1: Choices

A certain evil snicker could be heard.

"Who would you choose now, huh?"

Another day at the Krusty Krab's payroll. SpongeBob found himself in his boss' arch-enemy's lair, the Chum Bucket, standing in a room, stunned, as he saw that Plankton was observing him above him, behind a fool-proof safe window.

"Plankton, of all the evil things you've ever done, how could you do this to me?!"

His voice was completely different from his normal, happy-go-lucky voice. The answer to all his nervousness laid in front of his eyes, as he saw something only with an enormous quantity of evil (Like Plankton) would do: Both Sandy, his best friend after/besides Patrick, and Pearl, his boss' daughter, were hanging in chain-locked, arms and legs, to powerful, again mentioning fool-proof chains, each above two containers that were filled with something only Plankton would ever think of, would give a heat-breaking death: Liquid nitrogen!

"Now now, Spongebob, don't tell me you never liked that something COOL would ever happen to either Sandy or even Pearl!" Plankton cackled as Karen was looking from a distance., not believing how his forced husband would do something as cruel as this. His screen didn't showed anything but his classical stare, not emitting a single sound "Now…" Plankton then cleared his throat as he was eyeing the control panel he had in front of him, with a small red lever on his hands, which, by assumption, was the release control "I'll give you just ONE more opportunity or I'll ICE one or the other: Give me the krabby patty formula!"

"SpongeBob, save me!" Pearl squealed in terror as she was shaking.

"Pearl, the less you move, the more chances are that you don't fall down and end up frozen than an Austin Popsicle!" Sandy, sweating, was looking down at the container beneath her.

"Now SpongeBob, what will it be?"

"B-B-But…"

"Ah ah, I'd suggest you think your words, or else I'll make you CHILL!" he snickered as he moved his hands around the lever

'Enough with the ice jokes! Who does he think he is? Arnold Schwarzenegger?' Karen thought in disbelief. She then 'walked' a few steps towards his husband "Sheldon…"

Plankton then grumbled as he turned his head to face his wife "What do you want, pumpkin? Don't you see I am going to endure the best day of my life?"

"By threatening SpongeBob with innocents?" she put on an akimbo "Can't you at least make things a little easier for him?"

He then took a deep breath before answering "Alright, I'll do that, but only cuz I am a magnanimous person!" he then turned back at our beloved protagonist "Okay SpongeBob, since my wife here asked for some mercy, I'll give you an easier route!"

"Huh?" SpongeBob's eyes became wider. Was he gonna do what he wanted? Was Plankton that merciful after all?

"That's better" Karen crossed her arms "Oh, and couldn't help but notice that you weren't actually frightened by Pearl, since… you know? You were afraid of whales?"

"Eh" Plankton shrugged "Fear is an inconsistent science-less concept" he replied "And besides, Pearl is as innocent and harmless as every puny analogy this bad imitation of Texan squirrel does"

"HEY! I HEARD THAT!" both girls yelled, angry and forgetting for a moment that they were in deadly danger.

Plankton then looked next to the red lever, a blue one, then pulled it.

SpongeBob tried to grin in expectation thinking that Plankton was just gonna stop his evil plan, as he couldn't bear to lose either Sandy, a really good friend of her, or Pearl, the beloved daughter of his boss, which at the same time, was his beloved job ironically hanging from a string, knowing what would he face if he returned to the Krusty Krab with REAL bad news for his boss. Extra extra, Mr. Krabs, you daughter died! Oh no, please don't fire me, Mr. Krabs, I tried to save her! Yeah, he could already imagine it.

But life wasn't all pink-colored (Except Patrick, that guy IS really pink!). The ground then started to tremble as SpongeBob nearly was trying to stay on foot "What the…?!"

The horror didn't ended. Accompanied by the ground shaking, the two vats of deadly liquid nitrogen suddenly were moved away from the area and disappeared from sight, but were replaced by a heavily-bladed, fine polished, meat grinder, which was as wide as both liquid nitrogen vats, the blades were spinning at a considerable RPM, and were non-stop. The entire scene was accompanied by Sandy looking down in extreme shock and Pearl.

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!" Pearl squealed in terror as loud as she could, accompanied by her shaking.

"Pearl, what did I told y'all?!"

"What the barnacles?!" SpongeBob's eyes widened as wider as his cartoon persona would.

"SHELDON!"

"Oh, huddle down, Karen!" Plankton scoffed at his wife before returning his attention to the sea sponge "Change of plans, Squarepants" he laughed evilly "I won't kill them both, I'll give you the chance to save one of those two pretty ladies, and the other will be the Chum Bucket's next special dish" he smirked "It will be beautiful, even more beautiful than my special Chum-viar, mua!" he then kissed his hand in an Italian kind of way stereotype, or so.

"PLANKTON, PLEASE! DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE!" SpongeBob broke into his knees. His job, or someone VERY special for him? The riddle was in front of his eyes, no matter how he could put it. Sandy was the only female friend he ever had, considering how bad he was with ladies, he would give his entire sanity for her. He then stared at Pearl, reminiscing how good she was with him. And besides, his livelihood was very important too, not for paying the bills or the satisfaction to see his squid 'friend' everyday, but because krabby patties are his passion, EVERYTHING he would give for, even… Sandy? The sea sponge then looked back at Sandy with disbelief, as she couldn't even concentrate in staring down at his perturbed face, but to look down at her impending death. He knew he was willing to give everything for her, even… his own job? WHO CARES! Sandy's more important.

"I doubt you'll ever be able to save one of them, so that's why I've elaborated this" Plankton shrugged "BUT… you can save both of them if you just cut the crap and Give. Me. The. Formula" he grinned evilly again.

Pretty useless if he saved Sandy or gave the formula either way. He gives the formula, Mr. Krabs' business is ruined, he loses his job. He saves Sandy and leaves Pearl to die, his boss' business is saved, but… he still loses his job. Either way: Unemployment. But saving both Pearl and his job and leaving her female best friend to die was definitively out of the question! And besides, save one or the another… will make Plankton satisfied enough to end all of this? Only one way to find out! He then stood up, gulped, and decided to put all the cards on the table.

"Plankton, I'll save Sandy, I'll give you the…"

"SpongeBob…"

"Huh?"

Before he could ever finish, certain Squirrel's voice passed through his head, with a sad tone of voice. He then looked back at Sandy, who had a big frown at her face, ears perked as down as he could, and eyes totally nearly with tears "S-Sandy?!"

"Don't give up your job just because of me, I know how much y'all love the Krusty Krab, just…" she then sighed "Choose Pearl and save your job, I don't want to see you sad, so it's better for me to end up as mincemeat" she then barely formed a grin with a small laugh "Funny, I once told y'all, that you were gonna be mincemeat at some point during our friendship, pretty ironic" she laughed faintly.

Sandy had a heart as big as SpongeBob, maybe more than her Texan pride, but hearing her talk in her accent while in a sad tone of voice AT THE SAME TIME just melted our protagonist's heart. He never heard her THAT sad, not even when she felt Texas homesick or a failure as a scientist when she thought the Treedome Enterprises Limited board directors were gonna kick her out of Bikini Bottom for good. But SpongeBob's decision was already made.

SpongeBob then gulped "N-No, Sandy, I don't wanna lose you, even if it means losing my job…"

"WHAT ARE YOU SAYING?!" Pearl wailed "HELP!"

"But SpongeBob!"

"Plankton, I'll give you…" he then drew out his beloved spatula "THE FORUMLA!" he screamed with his eyes closed as he rose up his spatula at the air, but the metallic spatula suddenly detached from its grip, flying up in the air "Huh?!" he gasped.

"Yeeeeeeees!" Plankton deceitfully snickered while rubbing his hands villain-esque way as he stared down at his enemy in victory "Finally, my dream has finally come true!" he then bursted into evil laughter.

'I thought his dream was to marry me' Karen stared at him in total sadness.

Plankton's dream was about to become true, he could already imagine it, people coming to his restaurant, while his arch-enemy would drown into sorrows and bankruptcy.

"Noooooooooooooooooooooo!" SpongeBob screamed in slow motion was he saw his spatula was gonna be the first to suffer both Sandy and Pearl's fates.

The metallic spatula, who was raising up to the air, suddenly found itself falling down towards the meat grinder. If Plankton would ever realize what was going on instead of bursting out into maniacal laughter, he wouldn't even care, right? I mean, it was a tiny metallic object falling down into a big mechanical meat grinder. It wouldn't do anything, right?

But luck is like a coin, it has two faces.

The spatula, as he suddenly made contact with the meat grinder's blades, got stuck and utterly jammed the entire mechanism, slowly stopping the machine, who was expelling a cloud of smoke.

"H-Huh?!" SpongeBob gasped as he saw that the machine suddenly stopped.

Plankton then stopped laughing at the sound of alter and a flashing red light on his control panel "What?!"

ALERT! ALERT! JAM!

"Oh, you got to be kidding me" Plankton, defeated, looked down in disbelief.

'Match. Set. Game' Karen couldn't help but smiling inside her, as she expected that her husband would at least fail in this one, since it was too brutal.

"This oughta be my chance!" Sandy quickly yelled "HI-YAH!" she growled as she used her bran to free herself from the chains by just simply and nearly effortlessly opening her arms, and falling down into the jammed meat grinder, now a safe zone.

"Well, that blows" Plankton sighed.

"Ah…" Pearl's enormous weight suddenly got the best of herself, as she suddenly found too heavy for the chains, as one link was starting to break "Ah…" she let out another yelp as she felt like it was gonna snap, and suddenly, the link broke down and she felt herself falling down "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!"

"GOTCHA!" Sandy quickly dashed and caught her with one of her karate gloves on her catching hand.

"O-Oh my! Thanks, Sandy!"

"D-Don't mention… it!" Sandy was struggling to be able to hold the whale on her arms. Yeah sure, she could lift a giant anchor, but a whole whale (No pun intended)? NAH! "Dadgummit, you're just… too… MUCH!" she suddenly released her.

"Oh!"

"SANDY!"

Before she could ever realize, SpongeBob dashed towards her squirrel friend and tossed himself towards her with the enough strength to pin her down to the ground, hugging her tightly.

"My, SpongeBob, you're as happy as bull in no rodeo day!" Sandy chuckled.

"Of course I am!" SpongeBob was tearing as he looked at her "I almost lost you!"

Holy… cow. Was SpongeBob…? No, it couldn't be! Those words that came from his best friend really touched her. And besides, he was willing to give his entire passion… for her? She thought she wasn't THAT important for her. But she then suddenly realized there was a loose end as she then pushed SpongeBob away and got up "A'ight you microscopic vermin, you…"

But when she looked up, she saw that Plankton was no longer on that room behind the window "… escaped" she sighed in disbelief, but suddenly felt her hand being held by a certain someone, she then turned down at SpongeBob, who wasn't no longer in tears and with a smile.

"Sandra… leave him" he muttered "He's not worth it" he added "And besides, all that matters is that you and Pearl are okay"

Okay, he said 'you and Pearl', that's acceptable, Right? I mean, he had a good heart enough to care for her, but he also cared for someone else, that's fair!

Sandy couldn't help but smile "Yer right, SpongeBob, he's not worth even a nickel at all"

"C´mon" SpongeBob smiled "Let me… accompany you back home"

"Yeah… I would love that" she smiled.

"EXCUSE ME!"

The dramatic moment then broke down as they both stared at Pearl, who was standing there, with an angry look on her face and arms crossed.

"Oh, hey Pe-"

"You were willing to ruin my father, just to save HER?!" she then pointed at Sandy "I do believe daddy will LOVE to kick you out after he…"

"After YOU don't tell him ANYTHING!" Sandy growled as she walked furiously towards the female whale "HE saved us both, that's what matters!"

"Oh, puh-lease, you weasel, the intention is what…"

"HOW DID Y'ALL CALLED ME?!"

Both girls glared daggers at each other, but SpongeBob quickly got in between each other, separating them "Girls, girls, please don't fight, you're both okay, and that's what really matters"

"AGH!" Pearl scoffed as she turned away "You're right, Spongebob, but I won't cease to tell daddy about this!" she then turned away and prepared to leave.

"Yeah yeah, you're fine, he wouldn't even care to fire SpongeBob after seeing you in one piece, do whatever you want!" Sandy scoffed back, then turned to smile at Spongebob "Us mammals can be cocky sometimes" she laughed.

"Come on, let's go" SpongeBob laughed as he suddenly changed the topic.

Both the sponge and the squirrel then exited the room and embarked a long journey back towards their Treedome.

10 Minutes later…

They finally reached Sandy's house "Wanna come in and hang out for a while? I have tea and cookies" she offered as she prepared to enter.

"No thanks" SpongeBob smiled "I need to get back to work and tell Mr. Krabs everything that has happened, and pray for Pearl to not to convince him to fire me" he then frowned at the last part.

"Ah, you're gonna be fine" Sandy giggled as she rolled her eyes "Trust me SpongeBob, that crustacean won't give a darn, since you saved her daughter from death"

"You mean… accidentally" he giggled back "But… you're really sure he won't?"

"Of course, had I ever been wrong a single time since we ever met?"

SpongeBob looked at her, confused.

"That's what I thought" Sandy smirked "Anyways, thanks for it, SpongeBob"

"For what?"

"For saving me?"

"Oh, that? That's what friends are for" he giggled

Friends? But she thought she…? No, he must be wrong!

"Well, see ya later!" SpongeBob then turned around and began to job towards his workplace once again.

After seeing SpongeBob disappearing from sigh and taking off her air helmet, Sandy stood there, thoughtful. He would had given everything for her, and still called him a friend? She knew he was naïve, but did he really meant all those tears when Plankton threatened her life in exchange for a silly formula? She didn't knew, she was confused, so the next thing she decided to do was to go towards her treehouse and her bed, enough for one day. But one questions still remained:

"Did he just said… he'd saved her?"

Wow, how touching! Really! Well, I hope y'all enjoyed the chapter, you can expect more soon, so stay tuned… and please review!
