Enjoy this short oneshot! My first about Courtney/Duncan! Please review!

Courtney sat on the corner of the bunk in the girls' cabin, huddled tightly under her covers, trying not to scream. She saw shadows rushing by underneath, and they were scaring the living daylights out of her. Stupid Duncan! Courtney thought, Him and his stupid stories! There's no such thing as a hook handed murderer! Stupid guy, always being so mean to me. God I hate him.

Well, I hate that I love him.

He's a bad influence, always getting into trouble, he's mean and he's selfish and I am totally, completely, head-over-heels in love him.

How could this happen? He's the exact opposite of me! He's everything I hate, everything I go against! And yet…and yet…

The song "I Hate Everything About You" by Three Days Grace immediately got stuck in her head. At least it was better than thinking about the horror story Duncan told everyone earlier….

A noise sounded from the side of the cabin, and she squeaked in fright. Great. Courtney was really spooked now, and desperately wanted to be somewhere it was light. Eyeing the door that lead outside and, thankfully, the light post that lit up the stairs, she decided to make a wild dash to it. At least outside she could see any hook-handed murderers before they got her.

Courtney ran out the door and plopped herself on the stairs, basking in the light. She breathed deeply, willing her hands to stop shaking. Courtney had to take control of this.

She got up and began to pace, scolding herself aloud in feverent whispers.

"Courtney, get a GRIP on yourself. You can't afford to miss a wink of sleep, or you will fall behind in the challenge and get sent home, wasting everything you've worked for. There's no such thing as a hook-handed murderer, it's just a stupid story that stupid Duncan had to go and tell me…."

"Oh, so I'm stupid now?"

Courtney whipped around, abruptly stopping her wild pacing, to see Duncan leaning against the door to the boys' cabin, the usual smirk on his face.

"Have you gone crazy, princess, or are you giving yourself a pep talk because you're scared?" Duncan said in his usual cool voice, turned down low.

"What are you doing here?" Courtney hissed.

"I heard you come outside, I just wanted to make sure you were okay."

Duncan's unusual kindness made Courtney's mind go blank for her usual sharp retort.

"Oh…well…thanks. I'm…fine…"

He looked at her skeptically. "Oh really? Then why are your hands shaking so badly?" He said, grabbing her hands as he did. She didn't pull away like he expected. Instead, she sighed and said "Fine. I'm scared. Happy now? What are you going to do? Try to scare me more?"

A wounded look came across Duncan's features quickly, but left as soon as it came. "Maybe I came out to make you less scared, but if you don't want me too I'd be happy to go back and…"

"No!" Courtney said quickly. "I—I'm sorry. I'm just a little freaked out is all." Instead of laughing or making some rude comment like she had predicted, he pulled her into a surprising hug. It was unusually gentle, not at all like she thought it would be. He was big and warm, and instantly made her feel better. After a few minutes, he bent down and whispered into her ear, "I'm sorry I scared you."

Shocked, Courtney replied "It's okay…I'm sorry for being so…mean before." Duncan pulled back to look her in the eye and grinned.

"So you DON'T hate me!" he said triumphantly.

"No, but I still think you're stupid."

"Oh, come on, Princess, you know you love me!"

She rolled her eyes, but she was thinking something other than what Duncan might expect…More than you know, more than you know.
