A Glimpse in Time

"They say that tragedy lurks behind every Summoner who ever took on the Pilgrimage – and that the same holds true for their Guardians."

"Is that what they say, Milady?"

"Indeed it is", said Lady Yocun, strong and serene, as she was gazing upon the blazing sunset of her homeland.

"How dare they! Let not a single voice be raised against this sacred journey. It is… unrespectful."

"On the contrary. I think that the commoners understand us better than we sometimes trick ourselves into thinking. I understand my pains, I observe and respect them, but I do not know much about you, my brave Eldena. Why do you honour me by following me to life's end?"

Eldena did nothing but smile. Hers was a sad, unhopeful smile, not unlike the one that, at least once in their lives, every Guardian had ever offered to their liege since the night of times, when the world was young and no Sin plagued the oceans. Hidden beneath her helm, her eyes were fervent and passionate.

"You know everything already, Milady. Everything." This is what she would have wanted to say, but instead she pointed north, beyond the mountains, toward sacred Zanarkand, and so they stayed, sitting on the stony wharf, until night came.

The End

A small FFX drabble, no more no less. And my first fanfiction in English. I'm an Italian native speaker, and even though it's hard I'd like to translate, as an exercise, some of my shortest... did I say shortest? I meant best fanfics into English, of course. Which just happen to be the shortest... er no. P: Hope you'll like this, and I hope I didn't mess up too much...
