Day One
"Goddamn shuttlecraft...goddamn planet…goddamn Starfleet… goddamn Vulcan and his green-"
"Doctor, your constant complaints are making it harder for me to re-wire the shuttlecraft over-ride circuits"
"Oh, go to hell, Spock… Aw, damn! THE REPLICATOR'S STOPPED WORKING!"
"Starfleet? Come in Starfleet. This is First Officer Spock of the U.S.S Enterprise: 7 hours and 28 minutes ago Chief Medical Officer, Doctor McCoy and I beamed down to the surface of Alpha II in the Galileo shuttlecraft to examine cultural development on the planet. The shuttlecraft was hit by an unexpected meteor shower and crashed into the barren, artic-like environment that covers the other half of the planet. The shuttlecraft is now inoperative, and Alpha II's federal laws state that no Federation ship can use transporters on or around the planet. We request immediate assistance"
"You forgot to mention that we have no food, no water, limited oxygen, an atmosphere that's soon gonna' be beyond freezin' point and that I'm stuck with a damn Vulcan downhere!" Bones slumped into a chair and ran a hand over his grizzled face while Spock watched him in confusion.
"Doctor, this is not an enjoyable experience for me, either" He commented, resting back in the chair.
"You son of a… What's wrong with me!" McCoy accused, poking himself in the chest as if to emphasize his question.
Spock looked a bit taken aback "I was referring to the cold weather conditions" He explained, eyebrows raised, "I still struggle slightly with the cool temperatures of the Enterprise. Here, it is much colder; I do not know how long I can endure it"
The doctor realised he had been so angry with the damn shuttlecraft he had forgotten how the cold must be affecting Spock. Low temperatures like this were unhealthy for humans, so for a Vulcan, they could be incredibly dangerous. Giving Spock a look once-over, he noted the science officer was already beginning to shake.
"Aw damn…" Leonard grumbled as he moved to Spock's chair, "Well budge up then!"
Spock looked like he was about to protest, but a glare from the doctor and he obliged. McCoy sat down and wrapped his arms round Spock, pulling him closer until the two men were entwined on the chair. Bones could feel the Vulcan shiver under his hands and rested his head on his back, absently stroking a thumb over the science officer's shirt as he felt Spock begin to relax and warm up. Both men had expected the situation to be awkward, uncomfortable and certainly not enjoyable, but something about the way they held each other, naturally, almost as if (McCoy smiled in disbelief) they were meant to be there. They were comfortable, warm, and it felt like home.
"You feeling better?" Bones asked, hoping Spock wouldn't take it as an indication to move, he was happy where he was.
Spock just mumbled in agreement and closed his eyes as he fell asleep in McCoy's embrace.
