"Why do you think Marceline sent this?" Finn asked Jake as he waved around a tape that had arrived that morning. It was sent by one of the bat creatures from Marceline's cave. Jake had found it while looking around for some sugar for his hot chocolate.
"I don't know. Maybe she's sending us to a secret mission." Jake suggested.
"Why couldn't she just call us?"
"Finn, if she called us it wouldn't be so secret anymore. Besides, people could disrupt the line. Like Ice King did when we were watching his secret tapes."
"Oh," Finn said thoughtfully "Right, I forgot. Hey Beemo, can you come here and play this tape for us?"
Instantly, the little video player appeared from the kitchen cleaning its screen. "Please give it to me." It said, stretching out its tiny hand. Finn handed it over and waited as it slipped the cassette into its slot.
The video started off with Marceline fixing up the camera to face her. "Is it… is it on?" she asked herself "A-anyways, this is for Finn and Jake. I'll be leaving for the Nightosphere for a while so don't bother coming over to practice jam. And if you're wondering why I'm going over to the Nightosphere, don't. It's… some personal matters. Anyway, I know what the both of you are probably thinking so don't bother coming after me. That's all. Bye."
As soon as the video was finished, the two of them looked at each other with their mouths wide open. "You know what that means…" Jake whispered, and suddenly they both jumped up in excitement as they shouted "Adventure Time!"
"Didn't you hear what Marceline said?" Beemo asked and repeated a scene from the video "… don't bother coming after me."
"We heard her." Finn said, smiling "But I have a feeling she'll need us there."
"I've always wondered what it would be like in the Nightosphere." Jake wondered out loud, jumping about in utter excitement.
"You're not scared?" Finn asked, surprised by his unusual excitement.
Jake shook his head. "Nah, I've been through worst."
"All right, if you say so." Finn said dismissingly as he put on his bag.
Soon they were walking through the cave opening that lead to the Vampire Queen's house. It stood in the middle of the cave, between the land and the body of water. In the darkness, it looked haunted. A chill ran up Finn and Jake's spines. Something was wrong, Finn could feel it.
"Dude, something's not right." Jake said, as if reading Finn's mind. "It's like… there's something else here besides us."
Suddenly Finn felt it too. A strange presence of evil that filled the air like some kind of poison lingered about in the cave. He quickly drew out his sword from his backpack. Jake's arms expanded into muscular fists.
Finn saw something move in the corner of his eye but when he turned around there was nothing there.
"There!" Jake shouted and pointed at a shadow that jumped into Marceline's porch.
"Hold it right there!" Finn shouted, throwing his sword. It caught the shadow by the sleeve before it could get into the house. The duo ran towards it. Finn pulled out a flashlight and threw the light into the creatures face.
Marceline's dad hissed in disgust.
