I picked up my Cleopatra clutch, grabbed my keys to the Porsche and was down the stairs in a second, one of the many advantages of vampire-ism. Sitting on the couch, Jasper sensed my humorous mood and was by my side in half a second.
"What's so funny?" he murmured in my ear as he wrapped his arms around my waist.
"I'm going out. Care to join?"
He hesitated for a second; most likely trying to figure out if I was going shopping. I gave a long, heavy sigh. "No shopping, I promise," I reassured. The hesitation left his eyes as he took my hand. From outside, Edward chuckled as he read my mind and destination.
"What's so funny, daddy?" Renesmee asked impatiently, demanding attention.
Jacob laughed when Edward informed Renesmee of my intentions. Jasper looked at me and raised an eyebrow mockingly. I flashed them my hundred-watt smile.
I switched off the headlights and floored it as soon as we hit the freeway. One hand held Jasper's while the other navigated the car.
Since I drove like 'a maniac' we were at Port Angeles in no time. We ignored the bystanders that gawked at the Porsche. I drove down the street and parked in front of a store covered with lit up neon palms and tarot cards. A sign over the door said: Ms. Angela's Amazing Mediums and Readings. We got out of the car and walked through a bead of curtains. Inside, the scent was overwhelming.
"Damn hippies and their incents" Jasper muttered besides me.
Hey, we have nothing against hippies or anything, there was just a lot of incense.
In the far corner at the back of the room was a lady wearing a gypsy outfit. She had black hair that fell to her hips with a hat that had silver coins on it that jingled when she moved.
She gasped to herself when she took in our grace and beauty. She took a minute to regain herself and smiled tentatively.
I dragged Jasper along as I walked towards the lady.
"Hi, I was wondering if I could have my future told."
"Yes, let us begin" she said in a deep and mysterious voice. I sat down when she did, Jasper following my lead. She took out a plain glass ball and set it on an ordinate wooden stand.
She cleared her throat and waved her hands around the ball, staring into in intently. Jasper snorted at my side, to quiet for her human ears to detect.
"Ah..." she drawled. Her eyes flickered to my purse. "I see you spending a great fortune very soon"
I wanted to slap this lady. Slap her for being a big hoax, and the way she looked at Jasper didn't help the subject.
Jasper smiled wryly at my side when he read my jealousy.
Suddenly, the scene in front of me rearranged.
It was the same store as now, but we were gone. The lady was staring at the entrance, her face plain with confusion. Another woman with red hair walked into the store.
"Listen Sam..." she began "I swear I didn't mean it. It was an accident! I kind of crashed your car and-" she cut off when she saw the emotions rolling across Sam's face.
Fear, curiosity, amazement, wonder, astonishment and more fear.
"Hey, Sam, are you okay?" the woman asked.
She shook her head "Yeah, I'm fine" she paused but asked tentatively "What part is crashed?"
"The bumper..." the lady said sheepishly. Sam's eyes widened.
The scene rearranged again. Now I was back in the present. Jasper was stiff and rigid at my side.
I stood up and handed the lady a hundred bill. I got up, shook Sam's hand and went to the door.
"What did you see?" Jasper whispered.
"Um... are you sure?" Sam asked behind me.
"Keep it" I said "You need to save up for a new bumper"
Her face was very curious when I stepped out the door. As I walked to the car, a lady with red hair parked a car with a beat up bumper in front of Sam's store.
I smirked.
"Is that what you saw?" Jasper's voice was full of relief "I was getting ready for an ambush!"
