A close encounter with death
Nick sat crouched in a tight murky alleyway. It was near midnight. "Where is Alay?" Nick asked himself. he was here to save someone special to his heart, someone who he loved dearly and her name was Alay Wilde, it was Nick's task to save her, and bring her back. Precisely at midnight, she was supposed to meet him here at the randevu point. He reached down to his chest nervously twirling the pendant that hung loosely around his neck. It was a type of protection charm to help him in his mission. It would mask him from anyone who may want to harm him but only for a limited amount of time. Though it does not work under the eyes of death, the other spirits around did not see him.
Nick only had one chance to make it to the Middle Grounds with Alay, a sanctuary, protected by the time of night when death would take a breather, midnight.
Josh checked his watch, 11:59 "She should be here!" he said in a harsh whisper when suddenly he heard a noise, he sprang up and turned to the location of the sound trembling, praying he would not die from whatever it was. Relieved, he saw it was just Alay floating above one of the roofs adjacent to him. Josh didn't have time to enjoy the inviting sight, for it was now midnight. He only had 60 seconds to run back with her, so he yelled out "No time we have to go!" He very quickly realized his mistake and his blood ran cold. He heard a defining bang from behind him and without even looking back he ran, Alay followed suit. Death was hunting them down.
The Middle Grounds were only a few meters away, but it felt like a thousand miles, and to make things worse midnight was the only time Alay could escape to the Middle Grounds without being carried into the Pits of hell.
They both ran(and floated) as quickly as they could manage. It seemed like they still would never make it. Time moved and groaned slowly to 12:01 AM. Death roared as it gained on them. The grounds were so close they could taste it. 10 seconds. They took a giant leap over the border to the Middle Grounds and death slammed into the barrier unable to pass to the living world. Thusly they fell, crying, with joy as Nick said: "Welcome back sis."
