"I left without a plan I knew you would not understand.."
"You honestly think I wouldn't understand Gil.. Me of all people?" Gil Grissom ran his hands down his face as he sat down sluggishly
"When you said you were leaving I didn't let it affect me.. Do you know how hard it was for me to watch you leave?" Sara asked. Sitting across from him. Grissom didn't answer knowing the question was rhetorical.
Grissom spoke slowly, "Who was I- I to desert you when you needed me there… so now that you've learned to hate me…Sara. You're finally set free." He told her solemnly. Letting her go was cutting out his heart, but he knew he had lost her.
"Set Free?" She repeated quietly. Sliding from the chair she had more or less fallen into. "You're setting me free? Free from what? Pain and fear." Laughing a sarcastic chuckle she said, " I'm sorry honey, but don't have the power to set me free."
"I'll be here when you fall apart again, but what I want to know.. Is it me you'll take down with you on your knees…"
" You know I always was the strong one, but -but now I've come undone… Sara catch me." He begged as tears rolled down his face.
"Who am I to save you Grissom… next time you break down…. I'm breathing slowly like you to do.. when you had lost control.." With slow moments she stood before him, " nothing feels good anymore everything's wrong.. I'm not sure where to go." Sara told him.
I know and I'm so sorry.. I felt so full of doubt and you have to believe me the thought of running out kills me."
"Gil I'm still hangin' on and I've tried so hard and I'm still holdin' on.. I've tried my best for you.. I won't try anymore." Sara reached out to hold him as she whispered, "When I leave you I will not leave a letter, nothing at all… I'm sure you won't notice that I'm even gone." Kissing him gently she let him cry as she did.
Sara knew she never would truly leave him, but she wanted him to know there was always that chance.
