Ch. 1: Before the final war

Author's POV

This was the night. Harry could feel it in his bones. They, that is to say, he, Ron, and Hermione, had found and destroyed the last horcrux a week ago. Voldemort knew. He (Harry) was at the Burrow with Ron, Ron's family, and Hermione. Harry knew it was best to leave now. There was just something about the night that was telling him it was time. Maybe it was the chill in the air, maybe it was the fog; maybe it was the way everyone kept talking in whispers, or close to it, at least. He went downstairs to find everyone else talking in low voices. Hermione was sitting in Ron's lap; they had gotten together the previous summer. It was mid-June. Ginny was sitting across the table from them Ron and Hermione, looking extremely frightened.

"Ron, Hermione," Harry whispered urgently. They didn't hear him. When the pair still didn't turn around, Harry went up and tapped Ron on the shoulder, "Ron!" Ron and Hermione quickly turned around; all noise stopped.

"What?" Hermione asked.

"Can I talk you in private for a minute, both of you?"

"Well, I s'pose," Ron said, though not looking all that happy when Hermione got up.

"Harry, dear, what's the matter, you don't look well," Mrs. Weasley said, sounding concerned.

"I'm fine, Mrs. Weasely, I just need to talk to Ron and Hermione," Harry said, though not sounding completely convincing.

The three walked to the other side of the room; everyone else was totally silent, hoping to catch a snatch of conversation. No such luck.

"Harry, what's wrong, you look worried," Hermione asked quietly.

"Yeah, mate, you don't look well," whispered Ron.

"I'm fine, you guys, it's just I can feel it, tonight's the night. If you two are coming, we have to go now, if not, go sit back down with everybody else," Harry ordered in a whisper. He was dead serious. They could tell.

"We're still going with you, no matter what, right Hermione?" said Ron.

"Exactly, we've been with you through everything else, why should we stop now?" Hermione said fiercely.
