Peter Pettigrew was not a proud man. He tried. He really did but he soon realized that a man would do anything for his family. They didn't just threaten his life, but his mother's, father's, and his little niece's She was just barely old enough to walk and already had both parents taken away from her. He didn't want their deaths on his shoulders.
Peter was able to resist the first encounters when they were threatening his life. But when they started in on his family, he broke. He crossed the line and gave up one of his best friends and his wife. He left a child totally alone in the world.
Peter Pettigrew was not a proud man...
He isn't proud of what he did. Really he isn't. But, he saved his little niece's life, saved his family. What else could he have done?
