THE ANCIENT WORLD

Life on earth began about 3800 Million years ago. Recent DNA research has shown that humans evolved from ape-Like and then humid (upright walking ancestors) in warm savannas of eastern Africa.

The exact ancestory of our species is complex and still not fully understood.The first human species to leave Africa was homo erectus, about 1.8 million years ago.

Weird and Wonderful

In 1991, the body of a Neolithic hunter was found in a glacier on the boder of Austria and italy. His clothes of animal skin and bark fiber were perfectly preserved as were the remaining of him last meal – CEREALS and IBEX STEAK

Wild plants were first domesticated in about 9000 BC. Key staple crops soon emerged:

Wheat and Barley in the near east, rice in cina maize in central America and potatoes in south America.

WEIRD AND WONDERFUL

Necklaces or bands of twisted bronze or gold,known as torques, were worn by the celts as a status symbol, and also by warriors as protective charms. the world torque comes from the latin torquere, which means "to twist".
