Kari's Plan (to Make Ken See the Light)

It was sweltering summer day in Odaiba, enough that even the pool for Kari's apartment building was abandoned, the cool relief it offers not being worth suffering the heat to go down there. Well, not worth it except for four teenagers .

Two boys, Davis and Ken, were swimming laps in the pool. "Great exercise, swimming. And we're not going to let some measly heat ruin that for us. Fitness is important," Davis had explained when his friends called the two crazy.

Two girls, Kari and Yolei were laying out in the sun. They had entirely different motivations for being out in the sun that afternoon. "So Kari, are you going to explain to me what we're doing out here?"

"You like Ken right? But Ken doesn't see you as a girl, he just sees you as Yolei, his friend. I'm going to change that. Walk with me."

Yolei was rather sceptical about how this was going to work, but went followed Kari to the edge of the pool, sitting beside her with legs dangling in the water. "What are you planning?"

"You'll see," was all Kari would say, though she had a sly tone to her voice that had Yolei both intrigued and worried.

Coming back from another lap across the pool, the two boys stopped in front of them. "Finally coming in? It's so hot, how can you stand to just lay in the sun like that?" Davis asked the two girls.

"No, we just wanted to ask Ken's opinion on something. I say it's blue, Yolei insists it's purple. What colour would you say her top is?"

Ken shifted focus to Yolei as she opened her mouth to question what Kari was talking about. However, before she could say a thing, Kari gave a sharp tug on her top, untying it.

There was a period of time, forever for Yolei and a brief instant for Ken, where they were both just frozen. Kari immediately ran toward her building, with Davis grabbing his towel and following. A shriek was heard off in the distance as the two conspirators fled the scene.

Later that Day

The four were sitting in Kari's apartment, which was otherwise empty thanks to the other regular inhabitants leaving for more air-conditioned places.

"So, we're still not sure where things stand between us. We talked a long time, and basically we'll just see how things go. But, it's definitely a move forward. And apparently we owe it to you guys," Yolei addressed Davis and Kari.

"Just Kari really. All she did was tell me to bring Ken along for some scheme."

"I just love when a good scheme pans out," Kari said, grinning widely. "Now I'll go grab some drinks," she said, heading into the kitchen.

It was under a minute when Kari returned, arms laden with beverages. Walking by Ken and Yolei to the table, Kari found out two problems with her scheme.

1. She and Davis hadn't changed after getting back to the apartment, instead anxiously awaiting the return of Yolei and Ken.

2. Yolei was almost certainly going to want revenge, no matter how well it turned out for her.

Unfortunately for Kari, she found these problems moments after it would have been any good. In the end this cost the girl the cups of juice she had been holding, since Yolei's quick and simple tug had given her two things she felt were much more important to have her hands on. Kari screamed, Yolei smirked, Ken laughed and Davis uttered, "We've had our differences Yolei, but after this gift I apologize for any slight I've ever committed against you," with a face otherwise frozen in shock.
