The Bonds of a Flame-Dipped Litwick Romance
Chapter One
Merida was walking along the stream one day when she heard a wail. The wail did not sound like it was coming from a human, but from an animal in distress. She searched for the source of it, and then turning around a bend saw a strange sight. There was a purple ball cloud thing attacking what appeared to be a four-foot tall red lizard. The lizard was crying and the purple ball seemed to be spitting mud at it.
Merida knew one way to take care of the assailant. She pulled out an arrow from her quiver and fitted it to her bow. Then she aimed and fired it straight at the purple ball's backside.
"Koff-ING!' the creature yelled, looking back at her with fear and floating in the air to get away from her. It did not float were steadily, perhaps because of the arrow. But Merida decided it wouldn't bother the lizard again.
"Are you all right?" she asked the lizard. The latter looked up at her with grateful eyes, then stood up and hugged her around the middle. "Nice to meet you too."
The lizard pulled away. "Well, I'd better be going now," Merida said.
She walked away from the spot, whistling a Scottish tune. After a while, hearing footsteps behind her, she turned around to see the lizard.
"Are you following me?"
"Char," said the lizard.
Merida cocked her head. She had never heard a lizard make that noise before. Of course, she had never seen a lizard this big before. Or a giant purple thing that spits out mud. Where on Earth did these creatures come from?
Merida turned to the lizard. "Look, you can't follow me. My mother will never let me keep you."
She turned back on her way, expecting the lizard to remain behind, but it did not. It continued to follow.
"I said stay!" she said, starling even herself.
The lizard looked at her with mist-filled eyes, then turned and ran in the opposite direction. Merida continued on her way until she heard a roar behind her. Turning round she ran in the direction the lizard had gone, and when she came to a clearing, she saw a fearsome sight. A gray beast on two-legs which stood six-feet high and had a horn growing out of it and was three feet wide, was trashing at the lizard, who lay helpless on the ground. Merida wanted to scream for help. The creature attacking the lizard looked as if it were made of iron, and its horn spun dangerously like a drill. But Merida had to save the lizard. She took her slippers off and leaped into the air, aiming a kick at the large creature's head. It knocked the gray creature off balance, and though it hurt Merida's foot she kicked it again and again. Then she took her bow and snapped it on the creature's knee. This caused the gray creature to roar in pain. It aimed its horn at her neck, and she felt a prick go in before she lost consciousness.
When she woke up, the lizard was standing over her, a worried expression on its face. Merida smiled at it, weakly. "Where's out friend?" she asked.
"Char," the lizard said. It took a step back and blew flames out of its mouth. Merida's eyes opened wide, watching the flames run harmlessly in the air.
"You can breathe fire?"
The lizard nodded.
"So you used your fire to stop the gray creature from hurting me?"
It nodded again.
"Thank you," Merida said, hugging her new friend. She nuzzled its neck. Now they had both saved each other's lives. Merida wouldn't thinking of leaving the lizard now. She didn't know how she'd hide it from her mother, though. But she'd figure out a way.
