"Have you ever wanted to fly?"

"Er, no, but I know TK did when he was five."

"So you haven't then…"

"Why? What brought this on?"

"Well…"

There he went. The brunette's eyes drifted off to the sky, in the direction of children's laughter. His head rested comfortably in his companion's lap, allowing him full access to the sight of endless blue. Clouds drifted thoughtlessly, bouncing off hill tops in the distance.

Matt could feel his friend's slightly damp skin from sweat. He didn't blame him though, it was incredibly hot. Still, that didn't seem to be bothering Tai, who just kept smiling.

"I was watching those kids try to get their kite off the ground and I began to wonder what it would be thinking. You know, would it be something like 'Give up already! I'm tired and bruised.'?"

"I don't know. But kites don't think, you know that. Inanimate objects can't because they don't have brains."

"Neither do animated objects."

"Oh so?"

"Look at Daisuke."

"Okay, you got me there. But you're missing the point. And why do you even care?"

Tan eyelids closed for a minute as Tai began to compose a response. In the past he never thought things through and tended to be misunderstood. After realizing this, he had begun trying to stop and give himself a few seconds before attempting to say anything too meaningful.

"If you're asleep-"

"No! I'm up!" Salty hands quickly propelled the brunette into an upright position. The dry grass felt scratchy and prickly underneath him. He gripped handfuls of it anyway, feeling the hard dirt of the earth.

"Well, keep going then. Why do you care what the kite was thinking?"

"It's complicated. I was curious if it might have been thinking something else. Like 'I'm trying kids! Don't worry, I'll get it soon!'"

"What difference does it make?"

Brown eyes met with blue ones momentarily. Tai scratched his head.

"I don't know. I guess I just got bored. Anyways, I realized that if I was a kite, I'd want to keep on flying, never stop."

"The reason being?"

"It makes people happy. Also, it's probably a lot of fun up there."

"I'm sure it is." Matt rolled his eyes. "But I'd prefer to keep my feet on the ground."

Tai chuckled. "Yeah, you're that kind of guy I guess."

"Excuse me?" A blonde eyebrow rose.

"You like to have things constant, stable. You depend on things being a certain way."

"Oh, what? And you're a free spirit who likes to float around?"

"No." The brunette smirked. "I'm just brave and more willing to explore new territory."

"Did you get that out of your horoscope?"

"No."

"Fortune cookie?"

"Yep."

"Huh. Should've known."

"Anyways, want to hear the other reason I want to fly like a kite?"

"Hit me."

There was a mischievous pause. Tai glanced over his shoulder toward the group of ever hopeful kids. The kite was still stuck, losing the battle against gravity. Smiling, he turned back to face Matt.

"Because then you wouldn't ever be able to catch me."

"What?"

Without warning the boy leaned forward and smacked the blonde on the arm.

"Tag, you're it."

"Why you!"

The two sped off, running under the swaying trees and over the closet hill. For a moment Matt stared as Tai jumped, falling freely down to the gravel pathway below. He smiled and continued his chase. Maybe one day he too-

"Hurry up slowpoke! At this rate I don't even need to fly!" The brunette shouted.

Eagerly Matt leapt from the side of the hill after him. And as he looked up he saw a colored tail of bows above his head.
