Flashback

The sound of shoes hitting hard stone resounded through his head, he knew very well who this was, and it couldn't have been anyone else. Turning his head, the wind blew his hair in his face, but he brushed it away.

"N!" Called the boy who stood at the other end of the tower, panting heavily, his Serperior close behind him. But he merely responded with a tilt of his head, staring at the boy with misty eyes. He knew he had to make this quick, no matter how much it hurt the both of them. The cloak on his back billowed once more at the breeze; the soft sound of it waving filled their ears.

"Why are you here, Black? I told you not to follow me." His soft voice echoed across the perimeter, attempting to pin the trainer to where his feet stood.

"Did you really think I'd listen? You should know what I'm like at this point."

"Ah, you're right... always the hard-head, but I thought you'd understand the situation and comply." With a shake of his head, his green hair tangled behind him. "It's much too dangerous for you to be up here, Black; I think it'd be best if you leave."

"No. I'm not leaving without you." Black replied, folding his arms.

"Black, you don't understand, this is where we have to part ways, I can't go back with you!" His voice rose with the wind, sounding desperate.

"Don't be ridiculous, N! Please, let's go back!" The trainer grabbed his hat as the gust grew stronger.

"Have you been listening? I can't! Even if I really want to, I can't!"

"Why? You didn't say anything about this before!" Black shouted back, his knees shaking.

"You wouldn't understand! Please, go back without me! You have friends waiting for you down below!"

"I have a friend waiting for me right here, thank you very much." The younger boy snapped, folding his arms.

"I..." He was taken aback, his eyes glossed over, "I have to say goodbye to you… I don't have much time left!" The sound of stone crumbling echoed around them, "You have to go! I don't want you to be hurt!"

"I refuse to leave without you, N!" Black exclaimed.

"Bl- Hilbert! After this... we'll meet again! I know we will! Please! Just go!" He replied as he began to turn away. The rocks began to fall, a column rumbled, falling slowly as it separated them.

"N! No, come back!" Black began to shout, attempting to run after him. His Serperior wrapped around his leg, causing him to halt and stumble over it. "Come back!"

"I'm sorry..."

The trainer's voice grew to a distant sound in his ears, the cries of his name, and 'Don't leave me!' would haunt him for years. But another thought grew stronger; it would come to him in the nights, taunting him.

"Did he make it out of there in time?"

"N? Hey! Are you okay?" Called a voice, summoning him from his thoughts.

"Ash? ... Yes, I'm fine. Why do you ask?"

"You've been staring at that picture for a while... Do you know him or something?" The black-haired boy pointed to the brunet in the picture on the wall. N glanced back at it, a faint smile appearing on his face.

"Yes, as a matter of fact, I do."

Author's Note:

In all honesty, I know that this is probably short... but it was an idea I had and it came out tiny. I don't really know if I'm going to be making this longer, but that's something that you'll have to decide.
