The Words She Finally Heard
Jade raced through the doors, running to the front desk with Beck right behind her.
"WHAT ROOM IS MR. WEST IN?" she asked desperatly
"Room 143." the desk lady said, not caring.
"Thanks!" Beck called for his girlfriend as she ran to room 143. She burst through the door, panting.
"Dad?" she asked hesitently, walking to her father's bedside and sitting in a chair behind it. Beck had the good sense to stay outside to give the father and daughter some time alone to say goodbye.
"Jade, you came." said her father, making the closest he ever did to a smile.
"Yeah, I did." she said, blinking back tears. She never got along with her dad, but that didn't mean she didn't love him.
"Jade, before I die-and don't say I won't because I'm at death's door as it is- I want to tell you something." he rasped, breath slowing
"What?" she asked, leaning closer so she could hear.
"I love you, and I'm proud of you." he said with his final breath, and passed away.
Jade burst out crying. She finally got to hear what she's always wanted to hear from her father. Too bad he had to die for her to hear it.
