DPOV

Stumbling closer to the Academy, I barely make it past the wards and into the gates before crumbling to the ground in exhaustion.

My body could not take the exertion and stress I had just put it through and so I give in to the bliss of oblivion, knowing I was safe as I heard a far off voice yell 'Belikov'.

Said oblivion didn't last long as my mind conjured up the events that occurred in the caves not long ago. I had been happy as we tried to rush out. Rose had been by my side, scraped and dirtied, yes but safe and alive.

But all too soon, the happiness within me turned to panic as I saw a blond Strigoi advance stealthily towards my Roza. I had tried to shield my body with hers, trying to usher her forward, to keep her safe somehow that I barely felt the blow he dealt to my side.

Turning round to face him, we engaged in a deadly battle, but I had been distracted and he got the upper hand as he flipped me over. My eyes had locked with Rose's beautiful, pained eyes as they dragged her out, crying silent tears.

My heart, my being ached to go to her, to comfort her and then I felt the fangs against my neck, snapping me back to reality.

As soon as I felt his lips near my neck, my adrenaline spiked and I somehow managed to fight him off, but not before he dragged his fangs across my skin, drawing blood.

Uncaring, I had ran for the entrance of the cave, clutching onto the curve between my neck and shoulder, to be greeted by sunlight. The warm feeling of the sun's rays did nothing to reassure me as I focused all my energy on getting back to my Roza who was no doubt pained right now.

No, I had to make it back to her, I had to be there to assure her that I was alive and loved her and had not left her in her time of need. Not after we had finally given in to each other.

You see, the reason adrenaline coursed through my body as I felt the Strigoi's lips near that very spot on my neck was because that spot was where my Roza had marked me as hers as we had given in to our Love.

I had not noticed it until just before the raid. I had been changing my clothes and happened to catch a glimpse of it, my heart warming at the sight for it was a reminder of Rose's love for me.

So, naturally I could not let that vile creature taint it.

I woke in a bed with a bright light over my head, I was in the clinic. Closing my eyes and then opening them once more, I took in my surroundings, only to notice the little dark figure huddled to the side of my bed, clutching my hand tightly.

Rose was asleep and lines of fatigue and exhaustion outlined her beautiful features and even with the tear stains on her ashen cheeks…she looked breathtaking.

Sitting up, I drew lifted her out of the seat that I knew was uncomfortable, with as many times as I had sat by her when she got hurt, and drew her closer in my arms, planting a kiss on the crown of her before burying my face into the crook of her neck and inhaling her scent.

The action caused Rose to stir and awaken as she yawned and blinked up at me. I could not help but smile at her, she just looked so adorable.

As Rose noticed my gaze on her, a breathtaking smile graced those plump lips of her and she leaned up to kiss me. I reveled in the feel of her soft lips against mine, savoring her taste and realizing just how close I had come to losing her.
