Chapter One
The devious reject from Kai
"Today's the day. Today's the day I ask Kai to be mine. I hope he says yes."thought Abby. This is the main character, Abby. She LOVES Kai. He likes her back. As a friend. It's hard for dear Abby to get attention from him since he only comes to town in the summer. But she felt that today was her day.
"But since today is Sunday, I'll go to church first. Then I'll walk back to the shack with him!" she thought. "Abby! Hey Abby!" yelled someone behind her. "Oh, hi Karen." she said "Are you going to church?" Karen asked. "Of course! I always go to church." said Abby "Oh, that's right you do. Who are you going to sit next to?" Karen asked. Abby shrugged her shoulders. "Oh, I don't know. Either Kai or Cliff." "You can sit next to me and Potpourri." Offered Karen. "That's okay. But thanks for the offer." said Abby.
"It's already 9:55!? I have to get to church!" thought Abby. "I'd better run if I want to get there on time!" "Ah, made it. Just in time." said Abby out of breath. She opened the beautiful wooden doors to look for her friends. She found Cliff right away waving to her. But she couldn't find Kai. "Hey Cliff. Where's Kai?" asked Abby. "I don't know. You would think he would be here by now." said Cliff. "Yeah. I can't find Potpourri anywhere either." added Karen. "That's strange." said Abby.
The church sermon seemed to drag by for Abby. The usually one hour service felt like a three hour service. "This is taking forever." groaned Abby. "There's only fifteen minutes left." whispered Cliff. "Thank the sprites." sighed Abby.
Fifteen minutes later… "Finally!" she bolted out of the church! "Hey! Wait! Where are you going Abby?" asked Cliff. "I'm going to visit Kai!" she yelled back. "Oh." sighed Cliff. "I'll catch you later, okay Cliff?" "Okay. I'll see you later." he said.
"Just have to go through the square, to reach the beach!" thought Abby. "Then I can tell Kai how I feel about him."
When she rounded the turn to enter the beach. As soon as she stepped onto the warm sand. The first thing she saw was Kai… and Potpourri. They were kissing! She couldn't look. Tears welled up in her eyes. She turned and ran crying. Kai glanced up and saw Abby. He immediately stopped kissing Potpourri and called after her. "Abby wait!" yelled Kai. "Leave me alone!" she yelled. "Kai. Leave her be. You're with me now." said Potpourri. She took her hand and lightly ran it down his face to his chin. She turned his chin towards her, and began kissing again.
"It doesn't feel right to see Potpourri when I KNOW Abby likes me." thought Kai. "I should go apologize to her." he concluded.
