First Sight
There was a blinding ray of neon blue light, reaching beyond the summer sky of the Southern Water Tribe. Not far away, two siblings, brother and sister, clung towards themselves as they witnessed the spectacle before them.
Fear masked their fascination as the boy wrapped his arms protectively around his younger sister, clutching onto his spear in defence. Before their eyes unfolded what seemed to be the hidden, unsolved mystery of four intolerable generations, stepping into the war torn world after a century of broken hope. Little did they know that a moment later, they would gaze into the eyes of the mighty Avatar Aang.
The glaciers gave way as the iceberg parted, bursting in two. The freezing gusts of wind whipped through the atmosphere, clouding the view of the siblings. Through the evanescence of the misty air, the siblings could see something...or someone...moving through. As the blinding light cleared, a boy, fairly young in age, towered above the jagged edges of the glaciers. He rose defiantly against them, adorned in glowing eyes and tattoos.
"Stop!" the older one, Sokka, commanded as he beckoned the boy's surrender with his spear held out in front of him.
Suddenly, as if obeying him, the glow in the boy's eyes vanished. The girl, Katara, instangly let go, rushing towards him. The fear in her eyes obliterated, her motherly instinct taking over as they softened. Just before he crashed onto the icy ground, she leaped forward, catching him in her arms.
With a curious expression engraved upon her tan face, she laid him onto the remains of the ice. For a moment, she gazed down at him with wonder. She could feel a spark of admiration for the innocent airbender. The next thing she knew, much to her annoyance, Sokka started to poke the boy's head suspiciously.
"Stop it!" she glared at him, holding her hand out protectively and taking the young Avatar into her arms again.
With an exhausted moan, Aang, slowly and finally, opened his glistening, stormy eyes. A gasp of astonishment escaped his lips. Before him was a beautiful young woman, glancing at him with icy, crystalline ocean hues.
Instantly, he lost himself among those pools of cerulean, his past forgotten. Pure happiness flooded through him, urging him to go on. But the flustering of his heartbeat held him back from making the first move.
"I need to ask you something." he whispered hoarsely at last, never leaving his gaze away from her attractive orbs.
"What?" the girl asked, leaning above him.
"Please...come closer." Aang said. A part of him couldn't handle his usual patience. A fire of passion lit up inside of him, drawing him closer towards this mysterious, blue eyed beauty.
Katara leaned closer. "What is it?" she whispered.
Her voice...it was so beautiful and soothing. A few moments ago, he knew his first instinct was to jolt up and kiss those soft lips. They were too delicate to remain untouched. But instead, he widened his eyes. With a grin that reached from ear to ear, he enthusiastically whispered his first, real words after his century old iceberg dream...
"Will you go penguin sledding with me?"
And at that particular moment, their journey began...
