His only regret was to let go of that hand that belonged to no one other than his best friend. He didn't regret let him slip out of his reach; he didn't regret hearing those three words, not at all. Sure enough, he was happy about it. Why shouldn't he be? His best friend was happy, more than he was with him. A bittersweet smile rested on his lips, but quickly covered it up with one of his usual smiles.

"Took you both long enough."

The words sounded completely natural to someone who wasn't able to read him like an open book. Makoto couldn't be happier right now that Haruka lost the ability to do so after not spending time with him for at least 6 months now. Otherwise he might have to explain some things right now. He felt a worried gaze burning into the side of his head, but dismissed it. Now wasn't the time to let Nagisa fret about how wrong it was and how they didn't belong.
It'd never be. Haruka is happy after all.

"I only have two questions, though."

A pair of sea blue and red eyes fixed on him gave him the signal to continue.

"When is the wedding and whose best man will I be?"

Laughing, almost forced, Makoto smiled once again at the pair holding hands in front of him. As expected. About two years after Rin and Haru finally got together, they announced they were going to get married. As those words left Rin's lips earlier, the brunette felt something within him break and he was sure, once the day of seeing Haru reaching out for someone else's hand, he will cut all connection off to them for the next few years. To recover maybe? Or just to try to keep his sanity safe.

Suddenly, Haruka's eyes began to fill with worry upon finally looking at his best friend. He seemed stiff, uncomfortable. Tilting his head slightly in a questioning manner, Haruka tried his best to catch Makoto's eyes. Noticing the gaze, Makoto laughed softly, tilting his head slightly to the side with his usual trademark smile. "Don't worry, Haru-chan. I'm going to be fine. I'm just a little tired because the twins once again decided to keep me awake all night."

For once in his life, the raven believed the green-eyed boy without further questioning the pained eyes and with that fateful night, Makoto finally gave up to reach for Haruka's hand.
