Steve McGarrett continued to breathe heavily for a few moments as he lay on his back on the forest floor and he glanced back to the still form of Wo Fat, confirming that the man remained unconscious after the blow to his head from the branch. Satisfied that he was still far into oblivion for the time being, Steve untangled himself from his unconscious enemy and slowly pushed himself back to his feet.

As the adrenaline from the fight began to drain from his system the throbbing aches from the plane crash and ensuing fight came to the forefront and Steve took a few deep breaths until the pain returned to the background.

He quickly scanned his eyes over the forest floor searching for his gun, spotting it only a few feet away from where the rock which Wo Fat had used as a weapon now lay. Reaching it in three strides, Steve retrieved his SIG and moved back to his enemy's side but paused from holstering it as he stared unmoving at Wo Fat.

Steve clutched the weapon in his hand hard as memories flashed across his mind; the gunshot that had killed his father echoing down the phone line, the burning zap and following gunshots that had spun his world off its axis again and had landed him in Halawa. When the image of Jenna's lifeless body lying in the bunker came to his mind Steve flicked the safety off his gun, gripping it even tighter as the phantom pain of electricity coursing through his body gripped his chest.

Steve raised the gun, aiming it directly at his nemesis's head and his right index finger moved to the trigger, wanting to pull the trigger with every fibre of his being. He stood frozen with the gun raised for several moments as he continued to stare at the man who was the cause of so much suffering in not only his life but so many others who had been victim to his crimes.

His training and emotions warred with his duty as a law enforcement official; Wo Fat was a dangerous enemy who needed to be neutralised, but he knew that letting the justice system deal with him now was the best course of action and if he were to pull the trigger now the effort they had gone to to ensure he was captured alive would have been for nothing. It was against everything Steve believed in to shoot a person who was in no way able to defend themselves, even knowing that the person in question would have no qualms in pulling the trigger if their roles were reversed. Though thinking about everything Wo Fat was responsible for was almost enough to make an exception and Steve fought hard against the revenge burning in his gut that was urging him to pull the trigger and finally put an end to the bloodshed.

'Not like this, Babe." Steve heard his partner's voice enter his head. 'Let the son of a bitch rot in a prison cell for the rest of his twisted life."

Steve let out a breath, as though the decision had been made for him and he flicked the safety back on his SIG. As he lowered the gun and replaced it back in his holster Steve savoured the image in his mind of Wo Fat at last behind bars. Steve bent down and grasped his prisoner's wrists and started dragging his heavy form back towards the wreckage of the plane, promising to himself that he would personally lock the door to Wo Fat's cell when this was all over.
