Something that is hard to handle
Something fragile
To hold him when he hurts
-Rae Lynn, God Made Girls
Times like this, when no one else was around and only the two of them seemed to exist, made Juliet the happiest.
Earlier had been rough; another case that seemed to pull them apart… It had hit Carlton especially hard and Juliet knew it. What human wouldn't be so deeply affected? They had spent four days trying to find a little girl that had gone missing, and eventually they found her.
Only it was an hour too late.
Carlton had lost it when the tiny body was covered and taken away. He had lashed out at all those around him, including Juliet, but Juliet was the only one who didn't cower from him.
No, she understood.
Now he was sleeping in her arms, but his sleep was far from peaceful as he tossed and turned restlessly.
"Shh…"
Somebody's gotta wanna
Hold his hand
He curled closer to her and flung a heavy arm over her before he finally settled down again.
Outside, thunder rumbled lowly in the distance and a peal of lightning briefly lit up their dark bedroom.
Juliet heaved a soft sigh and kissed Carlton's temple, her fingers lightly carding through his thick hair.
"I'm here, Carlton. Everything is going to be alright."
He snuggled even closer to her and breathed deeply.
"I love you."
So God made girls
God made girls
He stood back and told the boys
"I'm about to rock your world."
And God made girls
The End
