Summary: Can Gruesome Grissom come to terms with his own feelings and find what's missing in his life? GC

A/N: I usually do songfics, but a song would mess the story up, so I didn't include a song. Hope you like it! R&R please! Flames accepted!

In Love With My Best Friend

Okay, she'd messed up, but so what? He didn't have to chew her out every time she did! Didn't Gruesome Grissom make mistakes too?

"Catherine! What were you thinking!" he said in a voice loud enough for Nick and Warrick to hear in the adjacent room. Catherine wasn't in a great mood to start with, and this just made it a whole lot worse. "Jesus, Grissom! I made a mistake! I'm sorry! Don't you ever make mistakes? Oh, excuse me. You never make mistakes; you're too perfect for your own good, you know that?" She spun around, angrily stomping off toward the parking lot.

He shook his head. I'm no where near perfect. But I hide myself. It's what I've been doing all my life. It's the way I am. She was his best friend. She knew him almost as well as he knew himself, but he did keep some things from her.

Out in the parking lot, Catherine opened the door to her big SUV and slammed the door shut. What the hell is wrong with him? He's closing off again. He does this on and off. It's starting to get on my nerves. But she knew this wasn't true. She could get annoyed with him, but never truly be mad at him. It wasn't him; it was her. She was frustrated with herself and she was blaming Grissom.

She had also noticed that Sara's schoolgirl crush on Grissom was beginning to be more obvious than before. Probably in an attempt to get Grisosm to notice, hut he was too dense to notice anything involving romance. He was married to his work, in sickness and in health. She almost had to drag him home when he was sick and refused to call in a sick day.

So why did she act this way? I'm in love with Gil Grissom. I've known this for years. Hasn't he noticed? She chuckled softly, her anger gone. Of course he hasn't. I'm too cautious in making sure he doesn't find out, and even if I wasn't, he's too dense to notice.

She wasn't jealous of Sara, but sometimes she wished she could be more open with her feelings, like Sara. She made a mental note to have coffee with Sara later in the week to discuss a recent case in which a woman had been murdered in her own bed. Supposedly, the boyfriend was "out with his buds", but of course he was probably out with some other woman, or in his girlfriend's bedroom with a small pocket knife, the murder weapon. Or both even.

Back in his office, Gil sat looking at a picture of Catherine and him at a New Years office party from about half a year before. They were both holding a beer, with his arm draped across her shoulders and her arm around his waist. If someone didn't know any better, they would've sworn they looked like a couple.

Best friends. But do I was more than that? His thoughts startled him. He'd never thought of Cath as more than his best friend, although he'd never really thought about it. He always avoided the subject in his mind and drowned it in work. Why do I do that? Is there a reason?

He started at the picture for another few minutes before it hit him. I'm in love with Catherine Willows. I'm in love with my best friend.

Let me know what you think. I'm trying to stay as close to the character's personalities as possible, so I hope I did okay with that.
