I have been friends with Robert Black for as long as I can remember, and we have gotten into some pretty tight corners. Like that guy with one eye- though no one believed us when we said he had one eye. Or that really big dog that chased us until we dove off the end of the pier. Then there were the dreams we shared. Strange dreams, of great battles, of teenage warriors in Greek and Roman armour fighting strange creatures. Of a boy that could be our brother, in a dark place, helping a blond girl with a sprained ankle. We always felt we were different from the other kids at our school, and boy, were we right.

Jack and Robert. Robert and Jack. For as long as I can remember, people have compared us and said Robert and I look alike.

We are alike- in looks and in our hobbies and the same stubborn, brooding looks we get. So much so that people thought we were brothers. Same raven black hair, same sea green eyes, and same tanned skin. We loved to swim- or just been near water in general. We were in and out of the sea like seals, in all sorts of weather.

We both hate been told what to do or made to obey. But Robert is serious and uptight. Abide by the rules. I am laid back and easygoing. We were no relation. Well, I always thought we were not related. We had different mothers, and what are the chances of the same guy knocking up two different women in the same small seaside town in Maine in less than a day of each other? I always thought it was pretty slim.

Until the girls in silver showed up!

They were pretty intimidating, what with their bows and arrows and the wolves. One of them even wanted to get their "Mistress" and turn us into animals to "hunt," and all because they decided to set up camp on the beach we were using to get changed into our swimming trunks. We were saved by a girl I guess was there leader. She had spiky black hair and wore a silver thing around her head. She had said no, that the girls should look at us properly and did they "really want to offend Percy, or his father, right on his father's front step?"

I didn't understand what they were talking about, until the lead girl asked me:

"What's your name?"

"Jack Burke," I answered, before I realised she had spoken a different language and I had responded in the same language.

She tried the different language trick on Robert, but he looked confused. Then she tried a different language- I think it was Latin. Then she looked troubled, but it passed. She smiled at us, her eyes twinkling.

"How about I get a friend to come explain everything?" she asked in English.
