Chapter One: Maybe...
"Today…I'll roll, too!"
The lonely girl is forever dreaming of something she can't reach and
Churning, churning the insides of her flustered mind.
She stands straight, but her wounds and bruises can be seen under the bandages.
"Good morning. My name is Saya Nozomi, and today, I'll perform the song 'Last Song' by Megurine Luka."
The man stared at her wrappings, ruffling his short, windswept brown hair, then motions for her to start. She adjusted her glasses and readies herself, holding a bunch of papers in front of her.
Saya starts to sing…it was a reasonably good song, but on the highest note, her voice starts cracking and falls wavering. She carries on like that for a few more moments.
He signals for her to stop. A look of pity is seen on his face.
"Dear, you shouldn't force yourself…I'm sorry, but you didn't pass on the first try…But we appreciate your effort…please try again next time, if that's okay."
She looks down and shakes head, her short mane of dull black hair swishing wildly.
"That's okay. There's no problem."
She says, yet tears fall from her puffy eyes.
As she exits the room, people whisper among themselves…
"Poor, poor girl…have you seen her wounds?"
"Is she abused? Maybe we should inform the police?"
"Does she have anyone to look after her?"
Yet she remains deaf to those words.
"There's no problem." she mutters; has she lost her words?
"Here are the results of yesterday's examination."
The teacher, a young woman with short yellow hair, gently places a piece of paper in front of the girl. She gives the girl one more look then moves on to the other students.
The girl's bandages have been removed, and the injuries are less noticeable…for now.
Saya slowly picks the paper up. Perhaps she passed this time? She could hope so.
Apparently not, a big, fat 'F' decorated the top of her paper.
She sighs.
"Why do I always fail?"
The teacher only smiles at her sadly, and then walks back to her desk.
A boy sitting behind her taps her back. His fingers are light. Not like those of the other boys.
He asks: "What's your score, Nozomi-san?" He has a wonderful voice.
She doesn't turn to look at him, she only replies:
"It's another failure…It's just another failure."
Whispers flew in the air. They have heard her, it seems.
"Another failing grade?" A girl asks her friends.
"She's stupid, isn't she?"
"Ha, I bet she can't even compete with our own class dunce."
"How pathetic." A mocking laugh.
Even if they continuously call her names…
She still remains deaf. Why would she notice such ridiculous things?
She continues to write something inside her leather bound journal.
"I wonder if I could ever spin again."
She asks herself.
Another failure, another failure.
If it ends in search of the mistakes, once again, she'll spin!
