Summary: When emotions run cold we ask the burning questions deep in our souls. The ones that sum up our entire existence. Do we get the answers we were searching for? This is a one-shot.
A flame.
A bright red flame in a dark huge room, eyes glowing in contentment when the taste of nicotine fell upon his tongue. A quick drag of the cigarette, before a slow exhaled breath. Smoke lazily entered the air.
" Did you ever-"
Quiet.
He didn't say anything though just listened to the younger individual sigh restlessly. He knew what the boy had to say would be important and he didn't want to say anything to mess up the peace between them. Another drag of the cigarette before another puff of smoke entered the air. The boy chose then to continue.
" When you were little sit in a bubble bath quietly relaxing and then noticed a plugged in blow dryer not to far from reach..."
The moon emerged once secretly hidden behind the clouds and peeked through the bedroom window falling upon spiky blond locks. He reached up running a hand through his own spiky red hair before willing the boy to go on.
"... and think about picking it up and dropping it in the water? Did you ever wonder if the rush you expected would somehow fail you?"
A deafening quiet.
Silent breathes from trembling lips.
" Did you ever when you were older stand on a chair daring to leap over the edge with a rope tied securely around your neck? Did you wonder if you'd literally see you life flash before your eyes as you struggled for your last breath."?
He said nothing but crushed the cigarette on the wooden bedroom floor, emerald eyes closing slightly. He waited for the boy to continue speaking and then...
" Have you ever wondered if you'd be able to fly away from all the pain as you stand on a bridge daring yourself to take that final step, the excitement to much as you tried to catch your last breath, knowing it could be the end?"
Light blue eyes watered with unshed tears as he looked over at the green-eyed beauty. Axel watched in a type of a daze as a small smile graced the boys' lips. He sighed looking over at Roxas before finally speaking.
" Did any of it matter in the end?" he whispered.
Roxas shook his head a single strand of blond hair falling on his face.
"Let me ask you a question roxas."
The blond nodded in the darkness not sure if the older individual had seen the gesture until...
" Did you ever stop to think about why I was always there when the end was so close, why I was always there to save you when the force of pain was to much to bare?"
Roxas didn't answer only pulled his knees closer to his chest. Neither said anything after that but roxas stood up from his spot on the floor and moved into Axel's arms.
" Are you glad you left those questions unanswered?"
Roxas felt the unshed tears begin to fall.
"Yeah" he whispered.
" Fate is a powerful thing Roxy and when love gets involved it's even stronger."
The younger boy raised his head in confusion, light blue eyes shining in the moonlight. Axel sighed kissing him softly on the lips.
" I just don't want to see you get hurt-"
He placed his hand over the boys' heart.
" Even If I am the source of your pain. I don't want you to try and hurt yourself anymore ok..?"
Roxas smiled softly placing his fingers against his still tingling lips.
"Ok." he whispered
