Introduction – Surviving You

Most people are told throughout their childhood that money cannot buy you happiness and that it's what is inside that matters more than anything – but my family would disagree. We are one of the oldest wizarding families – commonly known as "Purebloods – and my parents are immensely proud of this fact. Like all Pureblood families, we are rich, successful and powerful, and out family has an extensive family history of being sorted into Gryffindor when we attend Hogwarts.

To most people, my life would seem pretty much perfect – but it's not… - From the moment I was born, I was an instant disappointment; Firstly, I'm a girl – now, there is very little I can do about this, but when you're born into a family like mine, being male gives you an immediate advantage – because you're the one to carry on the family name, somehow this means that you have to be treated like a god. Unfortunately, my father only sees me as a bargaining tool to use on other wealthy families – his main ambition for me is to become Mrs. Whoever-is-the-richest.

Another way that I have disappointed my parents is by just being me whenever we are invited to balls, parties or any other social event that involves me speaking to anyone else – according to Mrs. Malfoy, I am 'opinionated, intolerant and defiant' – Mrs. Black thinks I am 'too self-assured for my own good' and Mrs. Nott believes me to be 'a decisive girl who has too much to say for herself'. Apparently, I am to be silent unless spoken too, have absolutely no personality or opinions, and develop an interest in flower arranging, embroidery or water-colour – or a combination of the three.

This stereotypical "fair maiden" doesn't suit me at all. In real life, I'd rather be climbing a tree than arranging flowers, going out with my friends instead of embroidery and listening to music at full volume rather than sitting silently painting.

Maybe this is why I was removed from Beauxbatons Academy of Magic and sent to Hogwarts…
