You know, I've seen a lot of strange things in my time. Espers, time travelers, aliens, giants, time loops, and many other things. But in all my time on this strange planet I have never believed in ghosts. That was why my most recent vacation was a strange experience for me.
Let me explain. My name is… Well, you might know me by my nickname, Kyon. It's the only thing anyone calls me. I am a member of a special club called the Spreading excitement all Over the world with Haruhi Suzumiya Brigade, SOS Brigade for short, a group designed to hunt down the supernatural.
Truth be told, we don't do much, except that three of the four other members, all with supernatural backgrounds, are keeping tabs on the brigade leader, Haruhi Suzumiya, who has this amazing ability to control reality itself.
She just doesn't know it.
Because she doesn't know it, my life is thrown into a random turmoil of craziness. I'm amazed that I haven't gone crazy yet. It's just one crazy story after another.
Today's crazy story takes place when the SOS brigade ended up going on vacation in America. Apparently Itsuki's little esper brotherhood decided to have the funding for Haruhi's crazy idea to go to America for a ghost hunting vacation. Thus, for the summer we flew to San Diego, borrowed Itsuki's "uncle's" van, and went on a road trip.
We drove through CA, hit all the major tourists spots like Disneyland and all that, though we didn't see any ghosts. Eventually we were driving through the deserts towards Nevada. Well, I should say Mikuru was driving, being the only one old enough to own a driver's license.
"It's the end of the world as we know it!" Haruhi sung along with the radio, "And I feel fine!" I sat there staring at the dirt outside our window. Suddenly I heard a noise of shock from Mikuru.
"I think we're running out of gas." She said as she looked at the little light on the dash. So we drove on until we saw a sign that read, "Fort Assumption: Next right." Following the signs we went along a dirt road, and over a small bridge which went over what looked like a dried up moat to some old fort like those in the western movies.
And here we are now, pulling into this old fort. We looked out the windows at the decrepit town. The buildings were old and decayed, windows were broken and the place was run down, just like one would expect a ghost town to be. We stopped right in the middle of the town and jumped out of the car.
"Dear god it's hot out here." Haruhi complained the moment she got out.
"Hello!?" I yelled towards nobody in particular. The town was small, only five buildings still in working order. The rest had been down for a while, destroyed when the town died. By the looks of it, we were the only ones here.
"Hey, let's go check out the saloon." Haruhi said as she pointed towards one of the buildings, "It's noon right now, so it'll cool off if we waste some time looking for people in there."
The moment we entered the saloon we heard a loud crash coming from outside. Rushing out to investigate, we realized that the bridge over the dried up moat was broken. If we tried to drive out of here, the van would just get stuck.
"Well then, it seems we are stuck here." Itsuki said, his usually smile not leaving his face.
