It was lunchtime, and Simon was playing a game of chess with himself. The rockstar was pondering over his next move for the white side when he heard a voice.
"Umm, Simon?" He looked around and, seeing no one, went back to his game. The owner of the voice jumped up onto the table. "Simon." He turned around.
"Who is i- oh hello, Jeanette. How, umm, how are you?" He scratched the back of his neck nervously. She giggled.
"I'm, I'm good. I just came to say hi." Jeanette started walking off. Simon quickly asked a question.
"Do you want to, umm, play with me?"
"What, chess?"
"Yeah." She giggled.
"I'd love to." She sat on one side of the board as Simon set up the game. He sat on the opposite side.
"You start."
"Oh ok. Thank you." She began by moving her knight. He observed the board, then mirrored it. She smiled at that, then moved a pawn. Simon took it with his knight. They started chatting as they played.
"So, uh, do you, do much, outside of school?"
"Yeah, my sisters and I sing. When I'm not singing I live in the library. It's the only real place I can be myself." Simon looked up in surprise.
"Sounds exactly like me. The jocks usually have fun picking on me. Alvin's the cool one that everyone likes." The chipette shook her head.
"Simon, that's not true. Even if most others may like Alvin, some don't. If it means anything, you're my favourite." The 'munk stopped his game for a minute to process.
"Me? But what about Al?"
"Well, for one, Brittany's the pretty one. For two, I prefer smart guys. I didn't see Alvin playing chess." Simon scratched the back of his neck, nervously.
"Well, umm, I'd just like to, umm, say that you're the prettiest girl I know, and -" The bell cut him off.
"I'll see you again?"
"I hope so."
