Tristan + Isolde

My dearest Tristan you must see

How thy love tortures me.

In love with thee betrothed to another

his touch causes me to shudder.

I think of thee and my heart beats faster

me as his prize is a disaster.

I love thee so much I hurt inside

without thee here I want to die.

Our affair lasts through the years

someone finding out our only fear.

The war comes here and he already knows

the secret is out and it's a fearsome blow.

He advances on me and grabs my arm

I flinch inside because of the harm.

I'm brought out side to a tree

and lying under it I've yet to see.

Running to him I discover

a wounded man who is you my lover.

The quiet rushing water in our ears

I profess my love to thee through tears.

"I don't know if life is greater than death" you say

"but love was more than either" as you finish you slip away.

I'm left alone next to this quaint river

Under this tree where thy last move was a shiver.

My sobs slowly quiet and I feel in my heart

Dear Tristan we are never to part.

I'll live my life to the end

Until we can be together again.
