Caring

"Kirihara-kun."

Hearing his name, Kirihara spun around, ready to growl at whoever was bothering. As he saw the person in question, he frowned. "You."

"Yes, me." Seigaku's fukubuchou nodded. Oishi, wasn't he? Or something like that. He'd heard Yanagi-senpai mentioning it sometime… "I wanted to ask whether you were all right." He looked awfully sincere, too. Like he actually cared or something.

"The Hell do you care?" Kirihara spat. "And why wouldn't I be, anyway?"

"Well… you lost control, there." Now he almost looked sorry. Sorry for what, his team-mate getting beat? The Hell? "If I was concerned when the same happened to Kaidou, it's only fair that I would worry about you." After a small pause, he added, "Your senpai certainly didn't seem to."

"Shut up!" Kirihara glared at the idiot. "What do you know about my senpai?"

"That they are raising you into a very violent team culture and seemingly hold little concern for your mental well-being. Tennis skills do not equal flawlessness, Kirihara-kun."

"Shut up about my senpai!" Kirihara took an angry step towards Oishi. "Like you lot are any better! You just watched from the side as your buchou was hurt!"

"We tried to stop him." Now, there was some edge to Oishi's voice as well. "We tried to tell him otherwise, but he wouldn't listen. Besides," the green gaze was now very serious, "that was entirely different."

"Oh?" Kirihara snorted. "Different how?"

"Tezuka knew exactly what he was risking. He knew that by sticking to the challenge he was endangering his professional career – his entire future in tennis. It was fully aware of this that he did what he did." A worried gaze, like Kirihara had been the one hurt the worst. "You, however, obviously do not realize the risks involved. You don't realize just what you are putting on line every time you allow yourself to enter that state. And neither do your senpai – that or they just don't care enough to risk defeat by stopping you."

"Like I'm going to listen to you! You're just taunting me, trying to make me not trust my senpai! Why don't you go to that freaking mummy of yours. See which one of us was hurt in that match."

"Inui expressed his concern for you as well." Oishi stepped closer. "When Kaidou entered a similar state, Inui stopped him. We all pleaded with him to stay in control. When you entered it… your team cheered. They were delighted to see you losing your mind."

"That's because you're all freaking pansies." Kirihara scowled. "Just let me be. There's nothing wrong with me." He turned around, seething with anger.

"Kirihara-kun." Gods, was the guy an absolute idiot or something – "While you may not care, I… I will worry. About you." A pause, and then, "Please… please prove me wrong. Be stronger than this."

Kirihara muttered a curse under his breath as he strode away. Stupid Seigaku. Stupid idiot who dared claim his senpai weren't right. Stupid voice sounding so sincere, so – so caring. And stupid green eyes confusing him.

Stupid, stupid green eyes that looked at him like he actually mattered.
